DISCOVER THE POWER OF X
YOUR NEXT STEP
T
hank you for applying to Xavier University. Each year, students from all over the world come
to Xavier to study. We realize you spend a considerable amount of time and effort preparing
your application. Please be assured it is given a complete and thorough evaluation by individual
admission staff members, not a computer. The admission committee reviews each application individually, taking into consideration all credentials submitted.
PROCEDURE S A N D D E A D L I N E S
COSTS FOR 2008-2009
Freshman applicants for the fall term are urged to apply in
the fall of their final year of secondary school. Freshman
applicants for the spring term should apply by Nov. 1.
Students living in the U.S. who are transferring to Xavier
from another university should submit an application at least
two months prior to the semester’s starting date. Students
who live outside the U.S. should apply six months prior.
A completed application file includes:

$11,000
Books, insurance and fees (estimate)
$2,000
Total $39,250
u Application, using this paper copy, Xavier’s online applica-
tion (www.xavier.edu/apply) or the Common Application,
either paper or online format (www.commonapp.org).
u $35 application fee, which may be paid by check. (The $35
application fee is waived if online applications are used.)

considered for academic scholarships.

applicants only).

school report, which will be sent to students when necessary.
u Copy of passport page.
SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID
Fall and spring applicants are reviewed for scholarships on
an individual basis, with limited funds available for spring.
Transfer students must apply by March 15 to be considered
for a fall transfer scholarship. Members of Phi Theta Kappa
(PTK) must submit the PTK scholarship application, located
on our web site.
Students wishing to be reviewed for international grant
assistance need to complete the international grant application, which can be found at www.xavier.edu/international.
Transfer students can access scholarship information at
www.xavier.edu/transfer.
F-1(STUDENT) VISA
Most non-immigrant international students need an F-1 visa
to study in the United States. Do not plan to enter the
country on a B-1/B-2 (visitor’s visa) and change status here.
THE I-20
The Office of International Student Services issues the
I-20 (certificate of enrollment) once the student is accepted
and shows proof of funding (a financial statement is
enclosed) to cover all expected expenses in the United
States. This document is mailed in the admission packet.
Please confirm with the Office of Admission which mailing
address to use (international or U.S.).
THE VISA PROCESS
Students generally apply for the F-1 visa at the U.S.
consulate in the country of their residence. Prior to applying
for the visa, students are expected to pay a special SEVIS
fee of $100 and include the receipt with the application.
In addition, at a minimum, students should be prepared
to provide a passport, I-20 or DS-2019, and financial
documentation. Because different consulates have different
processes, students are encouraged to check the individual
consulate’s web site or contact the consulate directly for
information about the application
process and time. Because
it will likely take a long
time for the visa to
be processed, we
encourage students
to apply to Xavier as
early as possible.
