Analysis and determination
of value of
centralized/distributed
model

In analyzing the 11 websites identified by the task force as “in scope” the need for a centralized site is
clear. Two of them can be considered core sites, with duplicative budget information presented
towards two different audiences. The remaining nine are more specialized. Consideration should be
given as to whether a federated or single source style is more beneficial. Is single source an option,
given time and budget constraints?
Keeping information accurate and in as much detail as possible is a concern when considering
consolidating the CFO’s website (myfloridacfo.com/transparency) and the Governor’s website
(transparencyflorida). The CFO’s website takes an “accountant” mindset while the Governor’s website

thinks in term of “budget”. For those unfamiliar with the complex budget process in Florida, this
distinction could become quite confusing. A way to use the same information for both audiences is
needed. One suggestion has been to use a 2 track system, one specifically designed for budget analysts
and one specifically designed for public access. Anyone can access either path, if they so choose. A twopronged approach could possibly keep the integrity of the data while providing equal access to both
audiences.
