DIAGNOSTIC MEDICAL SONOGRAPHY PROGRAM ACCREDITATION The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program of El Paso Community College is currently fully accredited by Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and the Southern Association of Colleges. Initial curriculum as well as updates to the EPCC Diagnostic Medical Sonography program are/have been approved by the Texas Coordination Board. The JRC/DMSO is actively involved in the establishment of educational standards leading to accreditation. The broad responsibilities of the JRC/DMSO include consultation and guidance to educational programs and administration of the voluntary peer review accreditation process in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. A document entitled, "Essentials and Guidelines of an Accredited Educational Program for Diagnostic Medical Sonography" presents the minimum accreditation standards for an educational program. The extent to which a program complies with these standards determines its accreditation status. This document is on file in the DMSO program office. There are several organizations which are actively involved in the establishment of educational standards leading to accreditation. They are: 1. Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of the American Medical Association (CAHEA). CAHEA is delegated the responsibility of accrediting a large number of allied health educational programs. Membership in CHAEA is determined by the American Medical Association (AMA) and consists of physicians, allied health professionals, educators, health care administrators, representatives of the informed public and allied health students. 2. The Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC/DMSO). The broad responsibilities of the JRC/DMSO include consultation and guidance to educational program and administration of the voluntary, peer review accreditation process in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. *All materials available for review upon request.
