INDIAN LANE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Dear Parents/Guardian,
In fifth grade, all students have an opportunity to audition for a select singing group called The Fifth
Dimension. This group sings at our December 18th All School Holiday Concert, as well as an additional
night performance (optional) at the Media Courthouse in December. As is the nature of a “select”
group, participation is by invitation only. Acceptance to the group will be based on a vocal audition
consisting of singing “ America” and “The Star Spangled Banner.”
Your child has shown an interest in auditioning for this group. The basic element I will be listening for
during the audition is pitch matching. To be fair, all auditions will be recorded and I will ask 3 other
teachers to be on the selection committee. If you agree with your child’s decision to audition for this
group, please sign and return the slip below by Friday, September 25th. Auditions will be held each
morning during the week of September 28th from 8:15 – 8:40. I will notify students of their audition day
via their classroom teacher as well as hang an audition schedule in the hallway outside my door.
Since there will be a limited number of students in this group, there will probably be some 5th graders
who do not “make it.” Please understand that I realize disappointment is a difficult part of life –
especially at this age. Fortunately, Indian Lane offers many additional musical opportunities for its
students.
All rehearsals for Fifth Dimension will be held at 8:00am on the following TUESDAYS:

Please review, with your child, the commitment he/she is making.
1. It is important for students to promptly be at school for rehearsal by 8:00 am (parents
provide transportation).
2. Attendance is MANDATORY. Since there are very few rehearsals, I need everyone at every
rehearsal. Absence from school that day, of course, is an acceptable excuse. Please email
me BEFORE rehearsal if your child is not able to attend.
3. Behavior, during rehearsals and at all performances, must contribute to the positive
atmosphere of the group.
4. Participation in this group is a commitment.
