Our Promise to the Community We believe everyone should have access to quality primary healthcare by a caring staff. Who we are Started in 1998, the Children and Family Healthcare Center (CFHC) is owned and operated by the College of Nursing, University of South Carolina. It is under the umbrella of University Specialty Clinics. The Center serves more than 7,000 patients and provides a comprehensive range of pediatric and specialty services from birth through older adulthood. The Center addresses an urgent need for providing health care to children coming into the foster care system and accepts clients of any age and income level including Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance. Who provides the care? Nurse Practitioner faculty from the USC College of Nursing are the primary health care providers at the Children and Family Healthcare Center. USC students in nursing, social work and pharmacy receive clinical experience at the Center. This quality clinical practice environment provides expert faculty and students with practical real life clinical opportunities that are academically strong and demonstrate evidence based practice. How We Make A Difference We believe EDUCATION and PREVENTION are the keys to healthy families and individuals. Our programs include: • Obesity prevention designed to provide clients and their families with literature and knowledge to assist them in making healthy lifestyle choices. • Outreach programs funded by caring donors that provide field trips to the zoo and Edventure are designed to give children educational opportunities they might not be able to afford. • A toy from the “Magic Closet”, a book from the reading library and warm caring competent staff who answer questions with compassion to assure that every child and adult feels special and leaves our Center with a smile on their face. • Reach Out and Read, a federal program provides free books to children. • Accessible location to adult and pediatric patients who are faced with complicated health problems. • Understanding of the foster care system. • Expertise regarding victims of physical neglect, physical abuse and sexual abuse. As a result of state cuts to Medicaid and cuts in other funding sources for vulnerable populations, the Center’s resource needs are urgent, we need your help to continue the excellent care we are providing.
