At some point in his/her life, every person realizes
that he must be himself because envying
others is not smart and imitating others is selfdestruction. Hard work on & dedication to one’s
own life is the only way to survive.
Lines 8 – 14
TRUST YOURSELF. Great men have trusted
and accepted their role in the world.
Conformity v. Nonconformity
• “Nothing is at least sacred but in the integrity of
your own mind” (364).
• “No law can be sacred to me but that of my own
nature”(364).
• “What I must do is all that concerns me, not
what the people think”(365).
• If you are a nonconformist, the world “whips
you with its displeasure” (366).
• BE A NONCONFORMIST
But…
• It’s really tough to be a nonconformist…
