STOMP ROCKET PROJECTILE LAB Due Date_________________Period________Group Names_________________________________ _________________________________ _________________________________ ______________________ Purpose: 1. To calculate the initial velocity of a Stomp Rocket. 2. To compare the trajectories of various Stomp Rockets, that have similar initial velocities, and find relationship(s) relating speed, distance, and angle of launch. Data Collection: *Follow instructions given in class. Graphing: On the graph paper provided, graph EACH trial to get a 2-dimensional view of EACH trial. Plot the height of throw on the Y-axis and the range on the X-axis. All trials should appear on a single graph. *Both the Y and X axes DO NOT have to have the same scale! *Lightly plot all trial with pencil then use colored pencils and legend to group trials by their RANGE…follow the rules for proper graphing. Conclusions: *CITE SPECIFIC TRIALS AND DATA! 1. Examine the trials that went the farthest. Discuss the factor(s) that influence the range. 2. Examine the trials with the greatest heights. Discuss the factor(s) that influence the height. 3. Examine your clusters of similar ranges. Do all ranges with in a cluster have similar “components”(angle, time in air, etc…). What type of relationships can you determine regarding similar ranges and other aspects? 4. In the space below, make a brief general concluding statement or statements regarding how to achieve the maximum range and maximum height when launching a projectile.
