BRISTOL COMMUNITY COLLEGE 777 Elsbree Street Fall River, MA 02720 Pre-ASE Instructor/ELA and Social Studies STATEMENT OF DUTIES: ABE instructors provide instruction for adults and youth in basic skills upgrading, high school equivalency preparation and college and career readiness. Instructors are responsible for maintaining student assessment results and tracking student progress throughout the year. Instructors will meet with students to define and update goals. The instructor participates in the development and implementation of program curriculum that addresses the ABE College and Career Readiness Standards and integrates employment skills. RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepares and instructs students with appropriate level materials Develops a syllabus and daily lessons plans based upon assigned classes, program curriculum and instructional priorities Administers student assessments-initially and ongoing Participates in goal-setting and goal follow-up with individual learners Maintains appropriate attendance & student performance records Assists with student placement, registration and orientation Works with the Career and Educational Advisor to assist students in achieving their personal education and career goals Participates in required staff/program meetings Engages in annual professional development activities related to professional standards and program goals Assumes responsibilities for educational projects as assigned by the Director of Adult Basic Education QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree required Experience working with a diverse adult learner population in an instructional setting preferred Applicants should have significant experience in HiSET prep, especially Math and Writing Experience and education related to specific teaching responsibilities Ability to adapt teaching style and materials to meet the individual needs of students Ability to work as part of a team and team teach if necessary Demonstrated ability to provide individualized and group instruction to non-traditional students in a managed enrollment program Strong desire to assist students in meeting their education and career goals Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to work with students from diverse educational and ethnic backgrounds Computer literate (educational software, college productivity software: MS Office) Bristol Community College is an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to Adult Basic Education Director Additional Information: POSITION STATUS: This is a year-round, part-time, non-benefitted position. This position is subject to budget appropriation. Classes meet Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00am12:30pm with additional paid preparation time, professional and program development and planning hours.
