Mrs. Kirk Poem in Your Pocket Selection April 2010 Comment Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song, A medley of extemporanea; And love is a thing that can never go wrong; And I am Marie of Romania. Dorothy Parker --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In “Comment” Parker is sarcastically commenting on the joy of life and the infallibility of love. She believes the ideas that life is “glorious” and beautiful in its unpredictability, and that love can never fail are about as accurate as her calling herself a rich and famous queen. I chose “Comment” as my poem because I love Dorothy Parker’s writing. Some might say she is depressing and cynical, but I consider her realistic and insightful, and most of all, amusing. Neither life nor love are perfect and it is foolish to think they are. I can still enjoy life and cherish love even if they are flawed at times. In fact, I think I appreciate both even greater because they are imperfect. Well said, Dorothy Parker, well said!
