TACA has a very close liaison with the various government agencies such as TxDOT, the TCEQ, and numerous COGs throughout the state and is a full service trade association. Our committees are very active with several hundred volunteer members committing their time and energies for the advancement of the industry. President Be Top Reasons To Be Affiliated TACA members represent 80% of the aggregates, 100% of the cement, and 75% of the concrete produced in Texas today. TACA has a political action committee (TACPAC) that raises hundreds of thousands of dollars annually and is the largest of its kind across the industry. TACA has retained the services of a highly respected governmental advocacy group to serve our member’s best interests at the state and national level. TACA has strong relationships with the state and federal regulatory authorities, such as Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), the State Comptroller’s Office, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), etc., to insulate our members from adverse rulings in the case of an audit or inspection. TACA members receive email updates such as important changes in the industry by our federal, state, or local governments. TACA members receive our highly acclaimed quarterly magazine, the TACA Conveyor, and have access to our “member’s only section” on the TACA website. TACA members enjoy the benefit of knowledge‐based seminars that provides the tools to be on the cutting edge of industry standards and practices. TACA provides our members with a tangible network to assist with introductory or present customer needs. TACA members are leaders in their communities and industry and are prideful that they belong to an association that emphasizes the highest of standards. Brief History In 1951, business leaders in the ready‐mixed concrete industry decided there was a greater strength in numbers and established the Texas Ready Mixed Concrete Association. A year later; the Texas Aggregates Association was organized. After operating for 22 years as a joint effort, with shared office and staff the two groups consolidated in 1974 as the Texas Aggregates and Concrete Association (TACA). The Association speaks for all forms of aggregate, concrete, cement, admixtures, fly ash and construction material producers and allied industries in a united effort. Ethics Statement The Members and Staff of the Texas Aggregates and Concrete Association (TACA) shall subscribe to the following statement when engaged in any and all activities pertaining to TACA, its purpose and activities; I. Each Member has the responsibility to conduct business in such a manner as to support the achievement of the TACA Vision Statement; The Texas Aggregates and Concrete Association will become the preferred source of information, advocacy, and leadership for representing the concrete, aggregates, cement, and related materials industry in Texas. II. In our relationships with TACA members, consumers, legislative, bodies, and the general public, we believe and affirm that each member has the responsibility to conduct him or herself in a manner that positively promotes not only their own business interest but also the industry as a whole. TACA members pledge to conduct themselves with the utmost integrity in all market, legislative and community activities. Objectives of the Association I. To encourage highest standards of business practices, environmental stewardship, ethics, customs and usage among its members. II. To acquire, preserve, and disseminate business information to the members of the association. III. To promote the best interests of its members in matters where members interests are in common. IV. To do any and all lawful acts necessary, convenient or desirable for the purpose of the activities herein specified and defined or which may be incidental and pertinent thereto. Committees TACA Committee members work as a team sharing common interests and enthusiasm for the aggregates, cement and concrete industry. We encourage all TACA members to serve on a committee. EDUCATION This committee is very active during the year creating educational training courses for the membership. This committee chooses topics and recruits speakers for the annual Short Course. They also choose topics and speakers for some of the Chat‐n‐Chews, and are involved in creating other educational programs, such as the Batchman Training program. ENVIRONMENTAL This committee acts as a liaison between governmental agencies and the membership and monitors environmental issues that affect the members of TACA. They choose the topics and recruit speakers for the annual Environmental Seminar. GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS This committee assists the membership in opposing adverse legislation and works for enactment of legislation considered in the best interest of the membership. The Chairman of the committee serves on the Texas Aggregates and Concrete Political Ac on Committee. INDUSTRY PROMOTION AND MARKETING The purpose of this committee is to increase the use of ready mixed concrete, cement, aggregates, and related products in existing markets and new market areas through an active promo on and marketing program within TACA. The committee works to promote a positive image of our industry through interaction with environmental groups and develops materials that can be used by community groups to educate regarding our industry. MEMBERSHIP This committee actively promotes membership in the association to the suppliers and producers who are not currently members of TACA. They also are responsible for devising viable concepts to enable maximum membership retention in the association and are responsible for the Member Buddy program. SAFETY/ TRANSPORTATION This committee conducts the annual Safety Contest and plans other safety programs and seminars, as needed, such as the Accident Investigation Training and FMCSA program. They also monitor all information relating to the transportation of materials by rail or truck, which may affect the industry. SPECIFICATION This committee works with the Texas Department of Transportation on changes in the specifications for aggregates, ready‐mix, and other building materials. It serves as a liaison to other similar associations toward solving mutual problems and private contracting agencies or authorities. SUSTAINABILITY This committee is responsible for the coordination and marketing efforts for TACA and its participation in the green building and sustainable design initiatives within the industry.
