Miss Anthony
Health and Society
2015-2016 School Year
Welcome:
Greetings students! My name is Miss Anthony and I will be your health teacher for this school year. Outlined in the
syllabus are the classroom procedures, expectations, discipline procedures, and grading policy.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me: anthonla@npenn.org
I teach at both the High School and Pennfield Middle School. The best and fastest way to contact me would be by
email.
Class Procedures:
1. You will begin most of your classes with a “Health Question of the Day”. You will answer the question in your
health journal.
2. The objective, assignments and/or directions will be on the board at the start of class. You are expected to
immediately begin working when you arrive to class on the specified assignment.
3. You may sign out for the bathroom or water fountain:
 Before class starts
 When you are done class work
 During independent work
 At the discretion of the teacher
* Unless it is an emergency, do not ask to leave at any other time*
4. If you have band or orchestra sectional scheduled, you must report to class first to be excused. You are
responsible for any missed work.
5. If you have a pass to leave during class, give the pass to the teacher at the beginning of class. You are
responsible for any missed work.
6. Remain in your seats until the teacher dismisses you (not the bell).
Class room Expectations:
As students in my classroom, I expect the following things from EVERY student:
1. Don’t interrupt people who are speaking (that includes me!)
2. Be prepared for every class with a pen/pencil, homework, notebook paper
3. Raise your hand and wait to be ACKNOWLEDGED before answering a question
4. Be open minded to others ideas and opinions
5. Do not talk when someone else is speaking
6. Use correct terminology (no slang terms)
7. When you have a story to share, do not refer to any specific individual. Use general statements such as: “I
know of someone who… I heard someone…” DO NOT start an example by saying “My parents…” “My
friend…”
8. Be in class on time.
9. Do not use offensive language.
10. Respect fellow classmates, the teacher, items in the classroom, and your school
*It is important for my health classroom to be a place where students feel comfortable to ask questions and
feel safe to express themselves. Be respectful to others always. We will be dealing with very sensitive topics
and it is very important that the classroom environment is a healthy and safe one!*
Consequences:
If you do not follow the classroom expectations there will be consequences. The following will occur:
1st instance – a warning
2nd instance – conference with student
3rd instance – student detention
4th instance – parent phone call
5th instance – referral to the principal
Consequences are at the discretion of the teacher. Meaning, I have the right to give you a detention without a
conference due to the degree of the problem, or if I feel a parent phone call should be made before a detention is
given, I will do so.
