TFTW
• Thought for the Week:
•“Yesterday is not ours
to recover, but today is
ours to win or lose”
think and silently reflect; How many
different ways can you think of WHAT –
WHY – WHEN – WHERE we have to
maintain a positive attitude?
Good Morning
Shoebox Appeal 2015
“Love in a box”
• With 600 boxes, we are one of the biggest
collection points in the North East of England.
• The delivery drivers told us most schools send
on average 50-100 boxes.
• 600 children received the gift of joy, hope and
love thanks to your efforts last year.
Where do our shoeboxes go?
• In 2014, we sent just under 600 boxes to
Operation Christmas Child.
• They were on a transport in December to
ROMANIA.
• They were distributed in orphanages,
hospitals and in tiny rural villages, almost
entirely cut off from the outside world.
How do shoeboxes affect lives?
• Give children hope and a sense of pride
• Improve children’s basic hygiene by providing
simple items like toothbrushes
• In some countries, give children access to
education; they are often not allowed to go to
school without providing their own paper and
pens
• Shoebox distributions are used to offer health
education, parenting advice, access to charity
organisations that would otherwise not be
available in tiny remote villages
What’s new this
year?
So what’s actually happening?
• Nearly 12 million Syrians have fled the
violence; over half are children (this is over
half of the entire Syrian population)
• 4 million of these have fled from Syria and the
others are still in the country
• Children in refugee camps are suffering from
malnutrition, disease, exploitation and
trafficking. Around 6 million Syrian children
have no access to education or health care.
• There have been devastating accounts of
desperate families trying to flee to Europe and
becoming separated, injured or even killed.
• Many of the refugees are highly educated,
qualified professionals; they don’t want our
money, our jobs or our houses. They just want
their children to be safe.
This isn’t political.
It isn’t about religion.
It isn’t about our rights or our money.
It isn’t about terrorism.
It’s about being human.
It’s about children suffering.
What’s it got to do with shoeboxes?

crisis
