Examination System
The credibility of Autonomy given to the institution is measured basically from the Examination system
with best practices being followed / adopted. Hence, various reforms have been to brought-in to establish
credibility and confidentiality at all levels.

Examination system has been automated

Senior faculty members are part of monitoring
committee to oversee the valuation system.

DUGC and DPGC are being constituted to
address grievances of students in examination
related matters.

Orientation program for invigilators, squad to
take regular visits to exam halls and a senior
faculty in-charge of exam duty has resulted in
systematic process of conduction of exams.
Malpractices in the examination are reduced
drastically.

Valuation of answer scripts and
announcement of results are done within a
week after the last paper.

Students are given make-up exam and also
supplementary semester as per the provisions
of autonomy.

Highly satisfactory results in all semesters

Minimal grievances from students regarding
the process of examination. Requests for
revaluation, grade review and personal seeing
are permitted.

Still, there is scope for improvement to make it
a foolproof system.
completely. Starting from registration of
students for exams. to announcement of
results is completely automated which reduces
human intervention and also human errors to
greater extent.

Generation of reports as per new accreditation
format & publication of results on-line are the
best features of this tool.

External examiners are involved in setting-up of
the question papers along-with our internal
examiners also (3 sets). Question papers have
been set based on Bloom's taxonomy to assess
the exposure of students to fundamentals,
analyzing capabilities, grasping and
applications.

Question papers are scrutinized by BOE with
external members drawn from various reputed
institutions. The proposal to have question
bank and composition of question paper using
questions from this bank on the day of
examination itself is explored and will be
implemented soon.

Question papers are printed centrally in strict
vigil of COE and CCTV cameras cover the
proceedings.

Question papers are picked from these sets on
the day of examination itself.

The complete area of examination system is
covered with CCTV

Practical exams have been introduced with an
external member as one of the examiner.

External examiners are also employed for
moderation of valued answer scripts to ensure
the proper evaluation of answer scripts.

Only senior faculty to take-up valuation and
moderation

Academic Culture
Action Plan worked
out at the Meeting
Quality faculty committed to teaching and research is
crucial to the success of any academic endeavour. This
is necessary to bring state-of-the-art educational
experience to their classrooms/ laboratories, which
requires having faculty members with full
commitment to their students as Advisors, Mentors
and Teachers. The Governing Body may give due
consideration to this need while making fresh
appointments and in their initiatives to retrain/
reorient the existing faculty.
At the Institute level
Short-Term:
·
Faculty development programmes to be
planned to enhance all three capabilities;
·
Existing Proctor System at Institute to be
made to cover all three aspects;
Faculty effort distribution for teaching, research,
advising and other services needs to be well balanced,
so that time for each one is properly allocated. With
the increasing resources available now, e.g., ICT/
internet/ innovative teaching-learning methods, the
time available for faculty to prepare lectures and
learning material can be efficiently utilized. This can
help the faculty, on an average, to distribute their
time for: Teaching - 40%; Research - 40%;
Professional Service - 20%. This may be given due
attention by the Governing Body while planning and
assigning the faculty workload.
As a matter of policy, newly recruited faculty
members may be given lighter (60-70 %) teaching
load during the first couple of years of their service at
the Institute. In this period, they may also not be given
any administrative responsibilities. Besides, they may
be given some start-up support to initiate new lines of
work like new courses and/or research and their
performance closely monitored. The Governing Body
may like to consider this as a useful step for preparing
the new appointees for a long term career at the
Institute.
There may be situations wherein faculty are heavily
involved in research and are spending more than 40%
of their effort on this activity. If this excess research is
externally funded, such members may be given
release time to some extent from their teaching
responsibility. However, no regular faculty member
may be fully relieved from teaching or academic
advising. This measure may help the Governing Body
in initiating a good academic culture at the Institute.
Long-Term:
Governing Body to take into account these needs
while making new appointments for faculty at the
Institute;
At the Institute level
Short-Term:
·
Faculty doing good research to be chosen
& encouraged with reduced teaching load;
·
Research output of such faculty to be
monitored regularly, for further support;
Long-Term:
·
Governing Body to initiate recommended
steps for MSRIT reaching IIT stature in a
few years' time;
At the Institute level
Short-Term:
·
Newly appointed faculty to be encouraged
to take up research by such incentives;
·
Research output to be monitored regularly
for varying support provided, as necessary;
Long- Term:
·
Governing Body to consider introducing a
suitable Policy for this at the Institute, to be
able to attract competent faculty;
At the Institute level
Short-Term:
·
Faculty engaged in intensive funded R&D/
Consultancy helped with reduced teaching;
·
Performance to be closely monitored for
varying support provided, as necessary;
Long-Term:
·
Governing Body to consider introducing a
suitable Policy for this at the Institute to
increase sponsored R&D/ Consultancy;
1(e)
Senior UG & all PG students may be selectively associated
in teaching to a limited extent, e.g., 6-10 hours/week.
They may be assigned to conduct laboratory classes,
problem/design/tutorial sessions and evaluate
assignments under the guidance of senior faculty
members. Besides, they may be assigned to be Proctors
for their juniors. Such students may receive some
compensation for this work helping them to earn while
learning. The Governing Body may consider facilitating
this as this would help in training the students for future
assignments e.g., as faculty members.
At the Departmental level
Short-Term:
·
Selected UG/PG students to do duties as
Tutor/Proctor Assistants for their juniors;
·
Performance to be closely monitored and
enabled to receive suitable compensation;
Long-Term:
·
Governing Body to consider introducing a
suitable Policy for this at the Institute for
motivating students for academic careers;

Recommendations on
Teaching-Learning Quality
Action Plan worked
out at the Meeting
As is well known, academic integrity is very important at
any institute. Hence, MSRIT may introduce good
practices to imbibe such values among its faculty and
students. This is necessary to promote academic
discipline, traditions, moral and ethical values and to
address such issues like copying and plagiarism. Senior
faculty members may be entrusted with the
responsibility to develop courses/methods in which
professional ethics and academic integrity are
discussed and explained through case studies and real
life examples. The Academic Council and the Governing
Body may give due consideration to this suggestion.
At the Institute level
Student' feedback on teaching and course work is
another important entity in achieving excellence in
teaching-learning. The on-going system of obtaining
feedback from the students may be got reviewed
professionally and modifications, if any, may be
introduced in the short term. Also, the system may be
made fully on-line to ensure anonymity of the
respondents and enhance confidentiality. The results
of this can be of use in identifying teachers needing
counselling for improvement and/or to recognize
outstanding teachers. The Academic Council and the
Governing Body may give priority attention to this
and initiate suitable measures as suggested.
Faculty Development/Orientation may be facilitated
as a regular activity at the Institute. This can maintain
the pedagogical skills of the faculty members at the
state of the art and also enable them to refresh their
knowledge& capabilities in their chosen fields/areas.
The Governing Body may like to encourage this
activity to cover all the faculty members of the
Institute and also extend its use to other technical
institutions as well.
Short-Term:
·
A small team of senior faculty to be formed
to plan and organize this training;
·
All the faculty members to be advised to
develop competence to handle such issues;
Long-Term:
Academic Council/Governing Body to take necessary
steps to ensure high academic integrity among
faculty at all levels ;
At the Institute level
Short-Term:
·
Student feedback forms to be revised to
include course delivery/syllabi/assessment;
·
To be administered on-line & data analysis
/action taken report widely publicized;
Long-Term:
Academic Council/Governing Body to give due
attention to feedback results for being able to
improve MSRIT academic quality;
At the Institute level
Short-Term:
·
All faculty to attend FDPs on pedagogy &
refresher courses to improve capabilities;
·
Such programmes to be arranged in-house for
covering all faculty in 2-3 years time;
Long-Term:
Governing Body to consider setting up of Faculty
Development Centre (FDC) for its faculty benefit
and also as income source;

New pedagogies also need to be given full attention
here, as there is now a need to move away from the
older teacher-led instruction to project-based,
student-centred, self-directed learning. All the
faculty/students may be exposed to new pedagogical
tools, especially e-learning and other advances.
Besides, faculty may examine ways and means to use
modern technologies to help reduce course
administration without compromising the
educational objectives. The Academic Council and
the Governing Body may like to give due
consideration to this.
Academic freedom of faculty members is another
cornerstone for excellence at the Institute. The various
provisions under academic autonomy may be fully
put to use and faculty members encouraged for
innovation in curriculum planning/design, course
delivery, course evaluation, etc., by benchmarking
with leading institutes like IITs. The Academic Council
and the Governing Body may encourage the faculty
members to pay special attention to this.
As talented and merited students are at the heart of
the teaching-learning quality, the Institute needs to
pay special attention to this requirement on a
continuing basis. Some suggestions for this include
taking appropriate steps at the Institute like regular
open days, arranging special training programmes,
mock CET/COMEDK for the benefit of aspirants to the
Institute. The Governing Body may give due
consideration to this.
At the Institute level

Recommendations on
Academic Experience
Action Plan worked
out at the Meeting
Curriculum planning/implementation on the right
lines is an important requirement in the training of
high quality technical professionals for the 21st
century. A rigorous student-centred curriculum may
have a proper balance between depth (discipline
core, ~60%), breadth (~25%) and free electives
(~15%), with a focus on flexibility, relevance, quality,
standard and excellence of the programme. Such a
breakdown is common in UG curricula at leading
institutions in the country. Also, PG curricula can be
somewhat more flexible than this. These factors may
be followed at the Institute to evolve forward looking
curricula at the Institute on a continuing basis. The
Academic Council and the Governing Body may like
to encourage the faculty to adopt this practice.
At the Departmental level
Other issues cover providing add-on courses in
different specialities for senior UG/ PG students
during holidays/vacations and using employer
feedback for bridging the gaps in syllabi, both to
improve the students' employability. Engaging the
services of senior R&D and industry professionals as
adjunct faculty and of well performing/
superannuated faculty members as emeritus faculty
can be of help in providing R&D/ industry orientation
and quality improvement of programmes at the
Institute. Besides, enhancing the scope of co/extracurricular activities on the campus and
improving training & placement facilities for all
UG/PG students can be of good help in boosting the
academic experience. These measures may be given
due consideration by the Governing Body.
·
More efforts to be made to launch studentcentred curricula for all the programmes;
·
All the UG/PG programmes to be up-todate and able to attract top class students;
Long-Term:
·
Academic Council/Governing Body to help
the faculty to develop forward looking
programmes of interest to industry/others;
At the Departmental level
Short-Term:
·
UG/PG students to have add-on courses in
vacations/holidays for better job prospect;
·
Co-/Extra-curricular activities to be given
priority to guide in teamwork/leadership;
Long-Term:
Governing Body to consider engaging the services
of competent emeritus faculty for guiding/training
of students and faculty;
