ADVENTURE
Erie Canal
“New York’s world-renowned Erie Canal System. Flat, safe, and
open paths run along the canal side through parks and villages
for hikes and nature walks. The world-renowned Erie Canalway
Trail offers 450 miles of wonderful views along old towpaths of the
legendary waterway created to link Albany and Buffalo. With no
motorized vehicles allowed, walkers, joggers, hikers, and cyclists
enjoy safe, easy traveling.
RockVentures
1044 University Ave., Rochester, NY 14607 585.442.5462
“With RockVentures, you can plan an entire day of fun as all ages
have a rockin’ good time with us and we are conveniently located
near downtown hotels, museums, and shopping. We are the largest
ropes course center in North America, with courses that include Pirates Crossing, Giants Ladder, Leap of Faith, and Islands in the Sky.
We challenge our expert climbers with our routes that go up to 42 ft.
The Erie Canal Heritage Trail, part of the longer Canalway Trail,
covers 70 miles between Fairport and Lockport. A promenade-style
section of this trail through the Corn Hill neighborhood of Rochester also features interpretive signage of canal history along with
benches for resting and docking for boats. (The promenade also
has one of the best views of the Rochester city skyline.)
RockVentures hosts a unique activity that will provide memories of
a lifetime. We host birthday events, corporate team building events,
and establish the importance of relationship building in climbing.
We promise adventure in a safe environment with our highly trained,
friendly staff.”

If you paddle in the other direction, you’ll find where the Erie Canal
flows into the Genesee River.
Genesee River
“Gliding along the Genesee River toward Rochester in a canoe
or kayak brings a thrilling sight when the city’s skyline suddenly
springs into view and the pulse of an urban area mingles with
the quiet lapping of oars dipping into the river. Within sight of the
skyline, the river’s wildlife share the water. Egrets, herons, turtles,
ducks, and more float peaceably near paddlers.”
– visitRochester.com
Today the Canal is a well-maintained recreational paradise rivaling
any canal in the world for beauty and ease of travel.
Along this historic waterway, paddlers will discover charming
homes and private gardens, stretches of complete quiet and
undeveloped vistas, birds, waterfowl, native wildlife, parks, and
picturesque canal-side villages like Pittsford, Fairport, Spencerport,
and Brockport. Each of these canal ports exudes its own special
charm while providing helpful services and amenities for visitors
traveling a water-filled ‘road.’
Kayak or canoe going through a lock is an experience you won’t
forget. The locks are controlled by friendly lockmasters ready to
answer questions or just chat as you float gently up or down inside
the lock onto your next discovery.”

TRAVEL
Adirondack Mountains These mountains lie within the Adirondack Park and contain 85
percent of the entire wilderness in the Eastern United States—representing the largest area of its kind east of the Mississippi River.
Pristine and expansive, the Adirondacks’ mountains and rivers have
inspired generations of outdoorsmen to hike, paddle, and play in
nature. Spanning over six million acres in Northern New York—an area
larger than the entire state of Vermont—the Adirondack Mountains
boast more than 2,000 miles of hiking trails, over 3,000 lakes and
ponds and 1,200 miles of rivers.

Catskill Mountains
Adventure and peace. Fine cuisine. Friendly, homey diners. Breathtaking vistas. A quaint covered bridge over a babbling brook... It’s all
here in the Catskills. Delaware, Greene, Sullivan and Ulster counties
were America’s original frontier, and you can find the majesty from
which our forefathers drew both inspiration and comfort. So climb
one of our peaks—or ski down them. Enjoy the finest golf, followed
by a grand dinner or a cozy supper. Absorb the arts and culture that
inspire. Find an adventure. Or just kick back with a good book and
a beverage. The Catskill region is an easy—and beautiful—drive
from Boston, Hartford, New York, Philadelphia, Buffalo, and beyond.
Practically a wilderness in your back yard! Life is an adventure. An
adventure you control. An adventure the Catskills inspire.

Finger Lakes One of the largest tourism regions in the state, New York’s Finger
Lakes covers 9,000 square miles from the southern shore of Lake
Ontario to the Pennsylvania border and encompasses 11 parallel lakes
spanning the center of New York State like a giant handprint. The
most popular lakes located in the Finger Lakes region are: Canandaigua, Cayuga, Conesus, Owasco, Otisco, Honeoye, Keuka, Seneca and
Skaneateles. Although each has a name of its own, these thin glacial
lakes are most often referred to as a group: the Finger Lakes. This
region includes two other famous waterways as well—the historic
Erie Canal and Lake Ontario, one of America’s five, fresh-water Great
Lakes—plus plenty of navigable rivers and more than 1,000 waterfalls.
From stunning scenery and important historic sites to fertile farm
lands and world-class museums, from hundreds of charming villages
to exciting urban centers in Rochester and Syracuse, the variety of
experiences visitors can enjoy throughout the region is impressive.
It is home to more than 100 wineries while offering four-season
recreational activities of every description. By car or boat, whether
biking or hiking, visitors soon discover that New York’s Finger Lakes
can offer the perfect road trip experience.

Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls State Park is situated on 400 acres of lush terrain
where you’ll find protected wildlife and an array of exciting activities
and fantastic attractions. Storied landscape architect Frederick Law
Olmstead—who also designed Central Park—created a wonderland
that surrounds Niagara Falls and includes gardens, over 15 miles
of challenging hiking trails and stunning views at every turn. America’s oldest state park, Niagara Falls State Park stands today as an
American icon and enduring legacy of the visionaries who worked to
save it for generations to come. Today, the park’s signature attraction,
majestic Niagara Falls, is the dramatic apex of the free-flowing waters
of the Niagara River Gorge.
Hike the Niagara Gorge trail system to explore the park’s scenic
terrain, or ride the Niagara Scenic Trolley for an historic overview
and fun facts and tips while enjoying your stay. Along with the park’s
year-round natural attractions, you’ll find a wide range of seasonal
events, prime New York shopping, and a tantalizing selection of
dining options. There’s so much to do at Niagara Falls State Park, one
day just won’t be enough to see it all.
