STATE COLLEGE FOR TEACHERS, ALBANY, N. V., FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 1932
MR. SAYLES TO BE
DISCUSSION LEADER
Northampton, Mass.—(IP) —
College students, once past masters at the creation of new slang
words, are now mostly imitators
in that
respect, according to
Dean
Marjoric
Nicolson of
Smith college.
Dean Nicolson is no enemy of
slang, w h i c h , she says, is accepted as a natural part of our
language, even by scholars, because it is brief and pungent.
I n a recent chapel talk to the
undergraduates here Dean N i colson asserted that the same
old slang words prevail t h r o u g h out the country. There was a
period, she said, when college
students used to set the pace,
"while now they seem content to
imitate.
