Research Guidelines
General Information and Instructions:
We will use MLA 7th Edition throughout the process all handed in work, Introductory Paragraph,
Outline, Rough Draft and Final copy. Are to be completed using the following Instructions.
1. Must use Times New Roman - 12 point font
2. Double Spaced
3. Underlined Thesis Statement
The bold typing in the following guidelines indicates the punctuation you should use when completing
your citations.
Information that is not in bold typing must be added by you.
When using information reprinted on a database determine the original source material then add the
database information.
Any information that is not provided in your source should be skipped.
Use the complete web address in your works cited.
Do not include web address for paid databases.
You may need to check several additional pages to locate all of the information for a website.
Use Italics when typing, but you may underline if handwriting your source cards
Basic MLA 7th edition Citations; these citations are provided as a general order of the citation.
MLA 7th edition Handbook is available in the Pennfield IMC for overnight checkouts.
Worksheets are also attached and additional copies are available for student use, please see the
Librarian if you need any assistance.
Several types of guides are available online, EasyBib, Son of Citation Machine, and Noodle Tools.
Additionally you can complete citations in the References tab in Microsoft Word 2007 or higher.

viewed it day month year.
Website:
Author’s Last Name, First Name Middle initial. “Title of webpage”. Title of Website. Publisher,
Date of Publication day month year. Web. Date you viewed it day month year.
