POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Library Systems Technician Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Professional Support E (Tech Support) JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for providing computer expertise, both technical and problem solving, to the EPCC library system for the troubleshooting and maintenance of the Innopac Millenium automation system, other library CD-LAN systems, networks and applications including library web maintenance. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Document, operate and maintain local area networks (LANs) for the five campus libraries and Library Technical Services department; responsible for seamless integration of these LANs into the district-wide college network; troubleshoot resident hardware and software, employing appropriate diagnostic techniques and tools. YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 40% 2. Assist in the maintenance, installation, and verification of Library District Web page and in promoting the library web site(s) to appropriate internal and external users. Establish and verify links to and from relevant sites, especially libraries and library service vendors. 20% 3. Assist in providing technical support and training to library staff on library application system. Advise, counsel, assist and support library supervisors and staff in the use of all library-housed applications software, including the integrated library automation system, LAN applications, search application software, both internal and external. Develop operating procedures and track performance of products. 30% 4. Perform day-to-day maintenance and backup off library server(s), LANs and miscellaneous hardware. 5% 5. Provide requested information in the form of reports, notices or data concerning the daily functions of the libraries upon request of users, library staff, external accrediting agencies, and other as appropriate according to accepted ALA standards. 5% REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Library Systems Manager. Skills/Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills both in general and technical communication; troubleshooting hardware and software; and maintaining the district’s library databases. 2. Equipment Used: Equipment customary to such a position. 3. Software Used: Windows 95, 98 and 2000, Innopac Millenium and should be innovative on any integrated library software. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, repetitive motion, or standing. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Alternative or combined skills in understanding, and/or influencing people are important in achieving job objectives, causing action, understanding others, or changing behavior; and, skills of persuasiveness or assertiveness, as well as sensitivity to the point of view of others.
