POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Head Athletic Trainer Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Professional C JOB SUMMARY: Serve as El Paso Community College (EPCC) Head Athletic Trainer for five EPCC National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region V intercollegiate athletic teams during games and practices. Develop overall athletic training programs for the college, including: injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs and counseling for student athletes. Responsible for professional and administrative services essential for the successful implementation development of the program. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 25% 1. Direct and administer the athletic training services program including; prevention, care and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for five EPCC NJCAA Region V intercollegiate athletic teams. Recruit for, supervise, and educate the studentathletic trainers; including performance evaluation of their duties. Oversees, directs and schedules the activities of athletic trainers and athletic training interns. Coordinate and assist with athletic training students for coverage of all home and away events. Travel is required to/from tournament competitions. 2. Coordinate pre-participation screening exams of athletes to include preparticipation physical exams and postural and body composition screenings. Receive and review student health history records and inform coaches of health problems. Maintain confidential student medical records; prepare reports and maintain accurate and detailed injury reports. Counsel students with health or injury problems and schedule referrals to health agencies. Assist and ensure student athletes are completing and submitting the proper medical insurance forms/claims. 20% 3. Oversee the use of rehabilitation equipment such as ultrasound, whirlpool, electric stem, and physical therapy treatments. Supervises the use of training equipment, maintain the training area and treatment room. Serve as athletic equipment manager; purchases, repairs and maintains supplies and equipment; maintains and accurate inventory of all athletic training rooms supplies and equipment; maintains first aid kits and supplies. 20% 4. Serve as liaison for athletic training and maintain open communication with student-athletes, coaches, attending physicians, health center personnel and the Director of Athletics. Serve as a consultant to Head Coaches on strength training and conditioning programs. Perform other duties as assigned. 5% REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Director of Athletics SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct supervision of student-athletic trainers. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Medicine or related field. EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years related experience. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES: Must possess Athletic Trainer License, CPR certificate, and First Aid Certificate. Must have valid Driver’s License and have a satisfactory driving record and be insurable. Skills/Abilities: Knowledge to identify athletic injuries and refer out to medical facilities; Ability to understand and carry out written and oral directions; Knowledge of using athletic training and physical therapy equipment with proficiency; Knowledge of all policies, rules and regulations of the College, the National Junior College Athletic Association and Western Junior College Athletic Conference and federal rules and regulations; Ability to travel to/from tournaments by car, van, bus, train and plane; Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment as needed; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, the public, and medical entities; Strong and effective communication skills; both orally and written; Ability to represent the department and the College in a friendly, courteous and professional manner; Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment; Ability to work in a diverse environment and be sensitive to issues of diversity and inclusion. 2.
