POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: EXTENDED TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Specialist Financial Aid Specialist - Electronic Processes Non-Exempt CATEGORY: Classified GRADE: D JOB SUMMARY: Provide skills and knowledge for the performance of specialized duties in the administration of student financial aid services and to serve as an advisor to student aid recipients. Responsible for interpreting complex rules, regulations, procedures and policies to students, parents and outside entities. Responsible for complex decisions requiring initiative and judgment in responding to individual student needs. YEARLY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: PERCENT OF TIME 1. Responsible for transmitting, receiving and managing electronic financial aid 30% application data/to and from the U.S. Department of Education. Ensure accurate loading to the student information system (Banner) and create required reports pertaining to dataloads. 2. Responsible for transmitting, receiving and managing electronic loan applications to the Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation. Process electronic activity involved with loan disbursements and returning of funds using EFT/Disbursement. Upload, process, and create pertinent reports. 15% 3. Act as liaison between the Financial Aid Office and IT in regards to the financial aid website. Responsible for maintaining the Financial Aid website ensuring information is up to date and pursuing possibilities that will increase site functionality. 15% 4. Responsible for reconciling unclaimed checks for Financial Aid and coordinating with Tuitions and other areas in Finance to ensure that all adjustments are properly adjusted in Banner and the Department of Education Common Origination and Disbursement System. 15% 5. Assist Manager and Coordinator for Technical Services and Reporting in submitting jobs that add, update, manipulate and/or extract information from Banner. Assist in annual new year setup. 10% 6. Act as liaison between Department of Education, other colleges and universities and EPCC to address any potential Pell over award situations. 5% 7. Assist in special projects to include outreach efforts. 5% 8. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Associate’s degree. EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years experience. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Good communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a team environment and appropriate telephone etiquette. 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer, fax, telephone, copier, and other equipment associated with an office environment. 3. Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting, and/or repetitive motion. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Courtesy, tact, and effectiveness in order to communicate with fellow workers, supervisors, and other members of the organization to request or transmit information, ask questions, get clarification, and exercise tact. WORKING CONDITIONS: Job is performed in general office or comparable working area with occasional distractions such as noise, interruptions, or congested work areas with exposure to some disagreeable elements.
