JOB SUMMARY: Plan, direct and oversee all aspects of El Paso County Community College District’s
athletic programs in compliance with the rules and regulations of the National Junior College Athletic
Association and Region V.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.
Oversee and provide leadership for athletic program including student athlete
recruitment, financial aid scholarships, housing and scheduling of athletic
contest ensuring compliance with conference and national rules. Develop,
implement and evaluate short- and long-range goals and objectives.

Responsible for coaching one team sport.

3.
Supervise, evaluate and provide personal and professional leadership to the
coaches and staff of the athletics program ensuring staff compliance training
as appropriate.

4.
Serve a primary contact for Region V of the NJCAA and represent the
College at regional meetings. Develop and maintain an athletic program that
ensures that athletic events are in compliance with NJCAA and WJCAC rules,
policies and regulations.

5.
Coordinate communication between administration, coaching staff and
instructional staff. Work with Counseling department, faculty and other areas
as appropriate to ensure that student athletes receive needed intervention and
academic assistance in a timely manner.

6.
Provide leadership for the marketing of the athletic programs among students,
faculty, staff and the community. Develop a successful athletics fund raising
program.

7.
Prepare and operate the intercollegiate budget and provide fiscal overview for
the athletic program. Oversee athletic facilities to include making
recommendations for improvement of facilities and equipment

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages department staff. This position will also have
supervisory responsibilities over the assistant coaches and will be responsible for the student-athlete during
travel to and from games.
BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES: Departmental budget.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Master’s degree.
EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years directly related experience.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1.
Skills/Abilities: Human relations skills; ability to effectively communicate with all internal
and external entities including all media sources; ability to effectively manage multiple tasks
simultaneously; ability to think and work creatively; exceptional customer relations skills;
leadership skills; and public relations skills.

Equipment Used: Personal Computer and other equipment associated with a general office
environment (copier, phone, fax, etc.)
3.
Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and
presentation software.

and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision,
distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
This position requires the ability to work both day, evening and weekend hours including being
able to travel with the team on road trips to games. This position requires the ability to read and
interpret policies, procedures and instructions. Have the ability to communicate both orally and in
writing. The Athletic Coach must demonstrate a cooperative attitude toward all other EPCC
programs.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Coach performs work both outdoors and in a climate-controlled environment. There is
minimal exposure to safety hazards. This position requires frequent travel. There is exposure to
natural atmospheric conditions such as sun, rain, wind, and dust, etc.
