POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Dean of Nursing Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Administrative E JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for instructional leadership for the district-wide nursing programs. Develop, implement, and evaluate vocational and associate degree nursing programs; coordinate the integration of such programs and services with faculty, staff, students and other campus constituencies; demonstrate judgment, utilize innovation in the implementing of diversified nursing course of studies. YEARLY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: PERCENT OF TIME 1. Develop, implement, manage and evaluate the nursing programs; provide program advice to faculty, staff and students; recommend semester nursing class schedules and nursing faculty/staff development activities, including assigned facilities (class-rooms, labs); supervise ordering of textbooks and oversee current nursing course outlines and syllabi for all courses; manage annual review of nursing course outlines and syllabi for overall effectiveness. Provide input regarding the design and use of nursing instructional laboratory space and equipment. Participates in the catalog revision process by providing updated information. 35% 2. Recommend short and long range operational and strategic plans for the nursing program and related policies/procedures; implement approved nursing programs; coordinate, plan, and recommend curricular nursing program development, innovations, modifications, and revisions; collect data and maintain records on the nursing program’s facilities, personnel, budget, equipment, and student enrollment trends, grade analyses, and institutional/program effectiveness standards which support the college’s long-term strategic plan. 10% 3. Ensure and maintain nursing accreditation standards, appropriate governmental regulations and District policies and procedures. Ensure that required reports and fees are submitted on time. Maintain specialized accreditation documents; assist with self-studies; participate in scheduled site visits; ensure that recommendations from the site visits are implemented. 10% 4. Recommend the operational budget for the nursing program with faculty and staff input; manage the fiscal allocations in accordance with the program’s approved budget; monitor equipment/inventories for the nursing programs. Oversee and approve department budgets, schedules, purchase requisitions, textbook orders, inventories, and other necessary documents regarding the nursing program and ensure they are processed in a timely manner. 10% 5. Establish and maintain relationships with businesses, local community and educational institutions. Ensure that nursing program advisory committees and/or taskforces meet regularly and that minutes are recorded. Coordinate articulation efforts of nursing programs and courses with secondary and postsecondary institutions. 6. Assist with employment/termination activities; provide personnel management direction and guidance to nursing faculty/staff, including orientation, assignment, performance appraisal, coaching, personal and professional development; facilitate resolution of nursing students, faculty or staff conflicts. Recommend nursing faculty/staff for assignment to college-wide committees and task forces. Supervise and review classroom assignments, office hours, class schedules and other pertinent information regarding the faculty within the nursing program. Ensure that the nursing faculty and staff perform their duties and responsibilities in accordance with District policies and procedures. Recommend and implement personnel-related actions within the specific areas of responsibilities. 15% 7. BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES: Departmental Budget ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Master’s degree in Nursing EXPERIENCE: Nine (9) years teaching experience in a degreed nursing program with demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in program planning and development, planning and budgeting in an academic environment, or similarly related field. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Conflict resolution, leadership and teambuilding skills.
