INTERIM EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN’S TEACHER Position Description Position: Interim* Exceptional Children’s Teacher, Middle School Full Time Start date: August 8, 2016 Reports to: Exceptional Program Coordinator Salary: Based on NC State Salary Schedule *This is a one-year interim position covering for sabbatical leave. No health/retirement benefits are included in the employment package. Organization Located in Asheville, North Carolina, Evergreen Community Charter School is a tuitionfree, public school serving approximately 450 students in grades K-8. We follow the EL Education model, a research-substantiated model for school reform with roots in the adventure and leadership organization, Outward Bound. Our program embraces differentiated instruction, curriculum integration, focused literacy and math, challenging performance assessment, environmental education and character education. Position Description General: • Follow all state and federal policies and procedures for the provision of Exceptional Children’s services (including; referral, eligibility, and services) • Develop (with the IEP team) and implement an Individual Educational Program for each assigned child • Provide self-contained, resource, or inclusion services for assigned students (7th & 8th grade) following IEP requirements and individual IEP goals • Do all paperwork assigned in a timely manner and following federal timelines as required • Attend all meetings for assigned students and new referrals to caseload • Collect student data to measure and report progress • Collaborate with general education staff to insure the implementation of IEPs in the general education classroom, monitor student progress, and plan for classroom accommodations/modifications and resource lessons • Create a safe and welcoming classroom climate and a community based on respect and democratic principles. • Supervise students in all situations, ensuring emotional and physical safety. • Participate in Professional Learning Communities, Team Planning, and Leadership Teams as assigned • Attend faculty, division, and leadership meetings Attend evening community activities and overnight excursions as appropriate and needed • Perform non-instructional duties as scheduled to maintain the safety of students and the appearance of the school (traffic duty, clean up of work area, etc.) • Assist as necessary for school-wide events/initiatives • Maintain current license and pursue professional development opportunities • Work with general education teachers, team leaders, associates, behavioral specialist, and parents to address student behavior and develop interventions as needed Communication: • Provide various types of feedback and follow up to students, parents, and teachers on a regular basis (e.g.: rubrics, narratives, IEP progress reports, interim reports, portfolios) • Meet and collaborate regularly with general education teachers and document meeting • Attend EC team meetings –Division meetings • Schedule IEP meetings in a timely manner with the parents and IEP team members • Provide IEP information, records, and reports to appropriate team members • Maintain confidentiality • Follow the established procedures from the Evergreen handbook for communication and problem solving • Inform EC Director of any concerns, issues or potential issues with EC • Minimum Qualifications: Current NC teaching license in Exceptional Children K-8. Preferred Qualifications: At least 3 years of experience teaching middle school students with special needs; familiarity with EL Education and/or experiential education; experience with pull out and inclusion services.
