NORTH PENN SCHOOL DISTRICT Administrative Regulations 1411.1 COMMUNITY RELATIONS Reference: Board Policy #1411 Relationship Between Government Agencies and Schools Relationship With Police Departments Whenever a student is involved in a violation of the law or there is a threat to the safety and welfare of anyone on school district property, the appropriate administrator shall be notified immediately. The building administration will determine, with the appropriate police department, whether a crime has been committed or a law has been broken. (1) Whenever the principal believes there has been a violation of the law, the appropriate police department will be notified. (2) Whenever a student is involved in a criminal incident and circumstances do not warrant immediate notification of the police, the building administration will file a report with the appropriate police department. (3) Whenever the police arrive to investigate an incident, building administration will provide the necessary information. The police department in cooperation with school personnel will then assume responsibility for the investigation. Investigation of a criminal incident is the responsibility of the juvenile officer or detective. The assigned investigator will inform the principal of all pertinent information as it becomes available. Whenever a police officer apprehends a student on school property during school hours, it is imperative that procedures outlined in Board Policy #1411 are followed as required. Building principals are required to inform the superintendent whenever a student is apprehended and/or arrested by police officers. Reviewed: February 1989 Reviewed: December 2007 ADM.
