Education.

Elective classes: Please choose one of the options (1, 2, or 3) listed below:
Option #1:

Option #2:
_____I would like to be placed in the elective rotation for all three trimesters.
This means you will be randomly placed in classes. Past examples have included: Dance, Home Ec, Technology, Art,
Project Wild, Debate, etc. This list of classes changes every year. Each class is for one trimester and you will not have a
choice as to which classes you are placed in.
Option #3:

Course descriptions for elective classes are listed on the back.
CONCERT ORCHESTRA: (Beginners) This performing group is for beginning string students. No knowledge of the
instrument is required. It is a year-long class and attendance at all concerts is required. The fundamentals will be
established; correct instrument and bow hold, bowings, music theory, and note reading.
Instruments: Violin, viola, cello, string bass.
ADVANCED STRINGS (ORCHESTRA): This performing group is for students who have played the instrument for at least
one year, and they must be able to read music. It is a year-long class and attendance at all concerts is required.
Instruction will go above and beyond the fundamentals; expanding on music theory, scales, key signatures, time
signatures, rhythms, tempos, styles of music, bow usage, and will develop playing ability in both small and large
ensembles.
CONCERT BAND: (Beginners) This performing group is for beginning band students. No knowledge of the instrument is
required. It is a year-long class and attendance at all concerts is required. The fundamentals will be established; correct
instrument hold, breathing, embouchure, tonguing, music theory, and note reading.
Instruments: Flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, percussion.
WIND ENSEMBLE (BAND): This performing group is for students who have played the instrument for at least one year. It
is a year-long class and attendance at all concerts is required. Instruction will go above and beyond the fundamentals;
expanding on music theory, scales, key signatures, time signatures, rhythms, tempos, and styles of music, and will
develop playing ability in both small and large ensembles.
CHOIR: This performing group is for grades 6-8. No prior singing experience is required. It is a year-long class and
attendance at all concerts is required. The fundamentals will be established; correct stance, breathing, matching of
pitches, music theory, and note reading. This will be expanded upon through warm-ups, vocalizations, diction, part
singing, and singing music of different genres.
NEWSPAPER: The Titan Times is a student-produced newspaper that is published once a week. The students design the
paper, write the articles, take the photos and deliver the finished paper to teachers. Students interested in newspaper
should be self-motivated and have an interest in expressing themselves through the written word. Assignments are not
the same each week, and may involve writing about current events, interviewing students or staff, taking photos, writing
an opinion column, or creative writing.
LEADERSHIP CLASS
Leadership Class is a class for students to learn leadership strategies and actively participate in promoting a positive
school climate. Students will have daily opportunities to demonstrate their leadership. Some activities they will be
involved in are morning announcements, recognition/spirit assemblies, school-wide recycling, community service
projects, advertising school events and school socials. Students need to be good role models who are hard-working and
have the desire to promote a positive school climate for ALL Titans.
PROJECT LEAD THE WAY
Project Lead the Way is a hands on course to teach students the element of designing objects. These objects/models
could include 3-D prints, racecars, and robots. Students are taught the elements of design using up to date computer
technology and students will implement their design by building the design they have created on the computer.
