SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT
November 17, 2005
Congratulations to New and Not-So-New board Members
I would like to personally congratulate and welcome Mrs. Linda Fox to our School
Board. Mrs. Fox, an educator is Upper Darby School District and a Springton Lake
Parent, will be sworn in as a new Board member on Tuesday evening, December 6th
before our Board Committee meetings. We welcome Mrs. Fox and we look forward to
assisting as she settles in to this new role. Of course, I would also like to congratulate
publicly our re-elected Board members, Veronica Barbato, Nancy Mackrides, and Bill
Montgomery. Serving as a School Board Director is often a thankless job and we are
fortunate to have such committed folks to step forward to take on this challenge for
another term. We have many exciting and “interesting times” ahead of us and we know
your leadership will be an asset to us all.
RTM Website
Thanks to our technology department, we are continuing to update and upgrade the
quality of our district website. Community members should check it often for information
on redistricting plans, and we will be adding to the number of web pages for teachers
and administrators in the coming months. Our goal is to give our community quality
access to timely information about the many events and accomplishments in our district.
We encourage everyone to email our site administrator, via the homepage, with any
suggestions, comments, or concerns.
Teacher Inservice Days
It has come as a suggestion from the Superintendent’s Advisory Board that we post
more information for parents about what it is we do on our Inservice Days. Parents
mentioned that they would enjoy knowing more about our professional development
opportunities and we have now added the information for November 8th to our web site.
You can see from reading this detailed review that our employees in RTM are working
to enhance all that we are doing to improve student achievement, particularly through
intensive use of data analysis at all levels.
Working In Their Shoes
Well, I have continued this initiative and had a great time this month lining the football
field at Penncrest. I dare say that some are whispering that my lining may have
contributed to our win on Friday night. Others, of course, particularly the maintenance
crew, are still talking about the fact that our players were running in many directions due
to the crooked lines. All joking aside, I must say that this project is accomplishing many
things. I have a new appreciation for how long it takes to line a field, how expensive the
paint is, and how labor intensive a project it can be when we have a number of fields for
certain sports. I want to thank Mike Jones and Ron Baldino of the maintenance
department for their kind assistance last week.
This week, I was fortunate enough to teach sixth grade social studies at Springton Lake.
I had a great time and the students were wonderful in Mark Homan’s classes. Lucky for
me, the lessons planned were on China and Chinese culture. I had the opportunity to
show off my very sparse remembrance of my study of Mandarin Chinese from my
college days and this certainly helped to impress the kids. It was good for me to
remember that teaching has always been my first love and remains my greatest
passion.
