1
Registration & Add/Drop Period
Registration
Registration for Fall 2015, Spring 2016, and full-year
courses takes place between May and June 30th,
2015. All students must apply to the program and
enroll in courses using Compass; the UConn ECE
online registration system. Once you have successfully
submitted an application and it has been processed,
you will receive an email notification that it is time
to enroll in your courses. For more information and
tutorials on the registration process visit: ece.uconn.
edu or call our helpline 1.855.382.UECE (8323).
What is UConn Early
College Experience?
UConn Early College Experience (ECE) is a
concurrent enrollment program that allows
motivated high school students to take UConn
courses at their high schools for both high school
and college credit. Every course taken through
UConn ECE is equivalent to the same course at
the University of Connecticut. Students benefit
by taking college courses in a setting that is
both familiar and conducive to learning.
High school instructors who have been certified
through the University of Connecticut serve as
adjunct faculty members and teach UConn
ECE courses.
Established in 1955, UConn Early College
Experience is the nation’s longest-running
concurrent enrollment program and is accredited
by the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment
Partnerships (NACEP). www.nacep.org
UConn ECE is celebrating 60 years of academic
outreach to the students of Connecticut.
2
Add/Drop Period
If you have not already successfully submitted a
2015-16 application, you may do so during the Add/
Drop period which opens on August 15, 2015. The
deadline to submit your application is September 15,
2015. You may also enroll in courses, add additional
courses or drop courses. The deadline to add or drop
courses is September 30, 2015.Please see your high
school site representative for more information. Please
see your high school site representative for more
information. Site representatives oversee the ECE
program at your high school and are readily available
to help you.
Add/Drop Processing Fee
There is a $25 non-refundable processing fee for
adding or dropping courses during the add/drop
period. This fee will automatically be added to your
invoice and is in addition to any original program
fees. Courses dropped by September 30, 2015 will
result in a refund of already paid fees minus the $25
processing fee. Payment and refund instructions can
be found on ece.uconn.edu by clicking “Billing &
Payment Info”.
Withdrawing after September 30, 2015
You may decide, for a variety of reasons, to drop your
UConn course after September 30th. To withdraw after
September 30, 2015 you are required to complete a
WAU (Withdrawn Audit) Form with your high school
counselor and submit it to the ECE office. The course
will appear on your UConn transcript with a WAU
grade. You will not receive credit for the course, nor
will the course impact your grade point average. You
are responsible for all program fees associated with
courses dropped after September 30, 2015.
3
Program Fees
By registering for a UConn course through UConn
ECE, you have a financial obligation to the University
of Connecticut and are subject to billing policies
similar to those used for all UConn students. Program
fees are $35 per registered course credit. In addition,
a $20 University resource fee is automatically added
to each course offered through UConn ECE.
Four-credit courses are $160 and three-credit courses
are $125. If you withdraw from a course and do not
drop the course online by September 30th, you are
responsible for all course fees. Students who take
part in the Federal Free/Reduced Lunch Program are
eligible for a program fee waiver.
4
Grading
If you earn a grade of C or higher in your UConn
course, you will have the credits applied toward
your transcript. If you earn a grade of a C- or
below your course grade will be automatically
changed to an audit (AU). UConn ECE should be
a beneficial way to begin your college career and
is not meant to penalize your grade point average.
Students do not earn credit for courses that have
been changed to an audit. Audited courses do
appear on a non-degree college transcript, but do
not affect your grade point average. Some UConn
courses are prerequisites for other courses.
If you earn an AU in the first course of a twocourse sequence, you will be unenrolled from the
continuation without penalty and your fees for the
second course will be refunded. (example, Math
1131Q & Math 1132Q). See the ECE Policy guide
for a full list of these courses.
You may notice that your high school grade and
UConn grade differ. It is possible that two different
grades can be awarded for the same course.
Your high school grade is determined by your high
school. Your UConn course grade is determined
by the grading rubric set by the University
department.
You will receive a University email notifying you of
your invoice. Fall and full-year invoices are issued
upon registration. Spring semester course invoices
are sent by email at the beginning of November. You
may pay your invoice online through the University’s
Student Administration System, by e-check or credit
card. Checks or money orders are accepted in
person or by mail.
It is important to pay your invoice by the date
shown on the bill in order to avoid a $50 late fee.
Failure to pay your program fees will result in a hold
on your academic record and eventual collection
proceedings. Returned checks will result in a $25
returned check fee.
FERPA
As a UConn ECE student, you are included in the
University’s Family Educational Rights and Privacy
Act (FERPA) policy. Under the FERPA policy, you have
a right to expect that information in your education
records will be kept confidential and will be disclosed
only with your permission or under provisions of
the law. For purposes of FERPA, the University
considers all students independent (regardless of
their age). Education records (including course grades
and payment information) will not be provided to
parents without your prior written consent. To better
understand the law, visit ferpa.uconn.edu
Since many UConn ECE students are minors, you
are encouraged to complete a FERPA waiver in the
University’s Student Administration System to make
communication with parents possible.

Net IDs
Student Administration System
A NetID is a unique identifier created by the
University that allows access to University technology
services. Your NetID is needed to enroll in your course
via Compass, as well as to access the University of
Connecticut Student Administration System, Libraries
and HuskyCT. You will also use
your NetID to set up your UConn email account.
The University of Connecticut’s PeopleSoft
Student Administration (SA) System manages
records, grades, and financial information. You will
also use the SA System to pay your fee bill, view
course grades and/or request transcripts.
After you have applied through Compass and your
information has been verified, University Information
Technology Services (UITS) will send a NetID email to
your personal email address; the one you used to setup your Compass account. This email will provide you
with your NetID and instructions on how to activate
and set a NetID password.
If you did not get an email from UITS within two weeks
of applying to UConn ECE, first check your email
spam folder. If the email was deleted you can find
your NetID and retrieve your password by going to
https://netid.uconn.edu/ or call UITS at: 860.486.
HELP (4357).
To access the SA System, visit
www.studentadmin.uconn.edu. You will be
prompted to enter your NetID and password to
use SA. If you do not remember your NetID, go
to https://netid.uconn.edu/ and use the “Find
NetID” feature. The SA system has a number of
tutorials available on various features.
Most universities and colleges throughout North
America use similar SA systems, so getting
accustomed to using this to manage your records
and request official UConn transcripts is good
practice.
Memorize your NetID and password! You will need this
information to access most University online services.
HuskyCT
Husky Course Tools or HuskyCT as it is more
commonly known is the University of Connecticut’s
e-learning system. Powered by The Blackboard
Learning System™ - Vista Enterprise Edition,
HuskyCT provides a wide array of tools and features
designed to support and enhance the classroom
learning experience. This system allows UConn
ECE students access to a class-specific website
customized for your course by the instructor.
HuskyCT sites may be used to post documents,
collect assignments and/or host class discussions.
Your instructors will let you know if they use a
HuskyCT site as part of your class.
To access HuskyCT, visit http://lms.uconn.edu

Library Access
Having access to the largest public research
collection in the state is one of the many benefits
given to UConn ECE students. The University of
Connecticut Libraries contain 3.6 million volumes;
51,000 currently received print and electronic
periodicals; 4.3 million units of microform; 15,000
reference sources; 232,000 maps; sound and video
recordings; musical scores; and a wide variety
of electronic resources. You may borrow up to
150 books from any University library, utilize the
interlibrary loan/document delivery service or access
the library’s online materials remotely by visiting
http://www.lib.uconn.edu/.
8
Email & Google Apps for Education
Google mail (Gmail), the student email system,
powered by Google Apps for Education and the
University email address (firstname.lastname@
uconn.edu) is the official mode of communication
between the University administration and all
students. Google Apps are communication and
collaboration tools offered in conjunction with
Gmail. Students have access to Google Calendar,
Talk, Start Page, Chat, Docs and Sites. For a full list
of Apps available, click on the Google Apps button
at the top of your start page. UConn ECE will use
your personal email (used during registration) for
communication, not your UConn account.
If you would like to use any of the Google Apps for
Education, including UConn Google Mail, please go
to http://password.google.uconn.edu. Using your
UConn NetID and NetID password set a password
for your Google Apps mailbox. Once you have set
your Google Apps password you should proceed to
http://gmail.uconn.edu and follow the instructions
for logging into your mailbox. Your Google Apps
logon ID is your firstname.lastname@uconn.edu.
For more information about UConn Google Apps for
Education, please visit http://google.uconn.edu/.
We suggest that you set up your UConn Google
Mail account and have it forward automatically to
your personal email address. Please visit Google
Help for more information on how this can be done.
You are also able to borrow books and articles from
a consortium of libraries with which UConn shares
resources through your ILLiad account
(https://uconn.illiad.oclc.org/illiad/logon.html). To
do this you must have your NetID active and your
UConn Google Mail account set up. Inter Library
Loan notifications can only be sent to your UConn
Google Mail account.
Academic Integrity
As a UConn ECE student, you must adhere to the
academic integrity policy set by the University of
Connecticut. This includes UConn polices that have
been created for academic misconduct, plagiarism,
misrepresentation, falsification in research and
computer violations. For a complete policy listing,
please visit the Division of Student Affairs website
at http://www.dosa.uconn.edu.
Course Evaluations
As your course comes to a close, you will receive
an email with directions on how to complete an
online course evaluation. Course evaluations
allow students to provide insight to the key course
aspects and are considered an important resource
that enables the program to continuously improve.
Please take a moment to complete your course
survey by the published deadline in order
to best serve future students of the program.
9
College Ready
Gaining college credits while still in high school
is just one advantage of UConn Early College
Experience. By taking UConn courses, you are
getting a preview of what college work will demand.
You will learn how to manage your time wisely,
work at a college pace and complete assignments
that challenge you. Most important, you will finish
the course with the confidence that you can
successfully complete a college course. This skill
set will serve as a guide and will make you a better
student upon entering college.
Course Recognition
The majority of students who have taken University
of Connecticut courses through UConn Early
College Experience have successfully transferred
their UConn courses to the colleges and universities
of their choice. You do not need to attend the
University of Connecticut to have your courses
recognized. While the University of Connecticut
cannot guarantee course recognition on behalf of
another University, it strives to make the transfer of
credits from one institution to another as simple
as possible.
When transferring your credits, UConn ECE
recommends following these important steps:
n Explore
our Transfer Credit Database.
UConn ECE has constructed the largest
transfer credit database in the country which
details transfer credit policies of many major
universities. Visit ece.uconn.edu to find the
likelihood of transferring your UConn credit.
n Contact
colleges and universities directly.
If you already know the institutions to which you
plan to apply, contact them directly to see where
transcripts should be sent and whether UConn
transfer credits are accepted.
n Request
a transcript. You are responsible for
requesting that your transcript from the University
of Connecticut be sent to a different institution.
UConn ECE recommends requesting an additional
transcript for your records.
10
n
Save syllabi. Colleges and universities might
request a copy of your course syllabus to
assure that the course was comparable to the
one taught on their campus and to verify that
your courses are actual UConn courses.
n
Speak to a college advisor. If your course was
not automatically transferred when a transcript
was provided, do not give up! You should speak
to your academic advisor to see if there is any
more information that needs to be provided in
order to have the course recognized.
n
Contact UConn Early College Experience.
If a college is requesting program or course
details that you cannot provide, contact the
UConn ECE program office at 860.486.1045.
We are here to help!
There are many ways that universities recognize
courses. Courses may be fully transferable into
a program of study or you may be granted an
exemption from taking a similar course. Courses
may be used towards fulfillment of a prerequisite,
allowing you to take more advanced courses as
a first year student.
Transfer Credit Study
UConn ECE conducted the largest study of
concurrent enrollment credit transfer in the United
States. Over 940 institutions were contacted and
80% report accepting UConn ECE credit. Based
on our alumni surveys, the transfer success rate is
actually closer to 87%. You should be prepared to
advocate for yourself if the credit
is initially not accepted.
11
Request a Transcript
You can have your UConn transcript sent to a wide
variety of colleges and universities for free, but you
must request your transcript. For the most current instructions for requesting a transcript, visit
our website and click “How to transfer your UConn
credit”. If you need additional help, contact the
Registrar’s Office at www.registrar.uconn.edu or
call 860.486.3331.
Plan on attending UConn? Credits earned through
UConn ECE will automatically appear on your
transcript as part of your non-degree career.
UConn ECE Alumni
The University of Connecticut hopes that you will
stay in touch during your college years. As a UConn
ECE alumnus, you will see the benefit of having
earned college credits while in high school. There
should be more flexibility in your course schedule
and increased opportunities. Remember to explore
all of your options!
You will be asked to complete a survey one year
after graduating from high school and four years
after graduating from high school. The survey will
focus on UConn ECE and how the program may
have benefited you in furthering your education.
Be honest! Surveys are one of the best sources
of data to help improve the program.
Opportunities exist for UConn ECE alumni to share
their experience with current high school students.
For more information on how you can pass the
experience on to others, contact the UConn ECE
program office at 860-486-1045.
