Responding to Suspected Biological
Agents (4 hrs) Thursday, 1:00p - 5:00p
The course will teach procedures to collect suspicious
(powder) samples in accordance with Florida Department of Health Bureau of Laboratory guidelines. This
ensures timely and accurate laboratory analysis
Participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate
their knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with
safe and effective sample collection techniques.

During the week, the learning resource center will be
available for students wishing to take IS100, IS700,
Structural Collapse Awareness, or Courage to Be Safe.
A facilitator will be available to assist students with these
courses.
Tuesday Session (8 hours)

National Traffic Incident Management Train-theTrainer – This class is restricted to Florida certified instructors.
The class will orient instructors to the national traffic incident
management course and how to instruct the course to fire
department members. After successful completion, instructors will be provided with all of the instructional materials to
provide this course to department members.

level materials. Responders to vehicle accidents and other
hazardous materials incidents require training to the operations level. Previous Firefighter I training programs only
addressed awareness level training. This course also includes
a practical component involving emergency decontamination.

S130 / S190 - This is a 40-hour course that is designed
to train firefighters in the basic fire behavior factors that will
aid them in the safe and effective control of wildland fires,
basic wildland firefighting training, and the human factors on
the fire line.


 FFP1810: Firefighting Tactics I - This course is
designed to cover basic factors involved in coping with a fire
emergency, and determining the best use of available
resources in protecting lives and property. This course
emphasizes the changing nature of an emergency situation,
and the ways in which the fire officer can evaluate the
effectiveness of his or her proposed incident action plan.
Accommodations
FFP2120: Building Construction for the Fire Service
Topics include identifying hazards from assault by fire and
gravity, how building construction can influence fire spread,
fire confinement or structural collapse, and many other life
safety issues. This is not a building course per se, but rather a
course to identify construction features and their hazards
under fire conditions.

knowledge and adult learning principles.The course emphasizes techniques which have wide application in teaching
situations. Also stressed are measuring teaching effectiveness,

Wednesday - Sunday Sessions (45 hour classes)

Firefighter Part I Second Skills Signoff and Live
Burns – The class is organized to provide the second
signature task book sign offs for Firefighter I Skills in the
following areas: PPE/SCBA, ropes and knots, forcible entry,
ladder evolutions, hose loads and evolutions, portable fire
extinguishers, overhaul, live fire training, fire stream operations, and ventilation.
NOTE: Students must present written documentation of
completion of the following components of Firefighter I:
Safety, Fire Behavior, Water Supply, PPC, SCBA, Communications, Ladders, Ventilation, and Hose and Appliances.
Documentation should be from a certified instructor attesting
that the student has met knowledge components and had
hands on training.
Full turnout gear is required. A limited number of SCBA
are available for use through the college.
Students MUST bring their Task Books.
Thursday Session (6 hours)

The Fire Chaplaincy – The role of the Chaplain is

NFA Preparation for initial Company Operations – This
“serving those who serve”. This workshop will explore the
responsibilities of the fire chaplain as they support fire rescue
personnel. This course is open to current chaplains, as well as
those considering involvement as a chaplain in the future.
This would also be the perfect opportunity for a department
exploring the chaplaincy to find out what it is all about.
Saturday & Sunday Session (16 hours)
course is designed for senior firefighters, company officers, or
acting company officers responsible for the management of a
single fire company at an emergency incident. These officers
are responsible for company readiness, personnel safety and
leadership. The course is designed to develop a better
understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a company
officer in preparing for incident operations.
