Leadership 1 includes problem-solving techniques, ways to identify and assess the needs of subordinates, methods for running meetings effectively and decisionmaking skills. Leadership 2 addresses ethics, use and abuse of power at the CO level, creativity in the fire service environment, and management of the multiple roles of the CO. Thursday Session (8 hours) National Traffic Incident Management – This course When Things Go Bad... will describe the purpose of the Strategic Highway Research Program, teach students how to recognize the dangers encountered by emergency responders working in or near traffic; and define traffic incident management. Friday Session (8 hours) As we train in a static environment for a dynamic field we have to ask ourselves, are we training the right way? Many of us focus on our physical health, but most training organizations neglect the presence of our fear induced tachycardia (fight/flight). Discussed will be the advantages of hormonal induced performance and strength gains. Friday Session (6 hours) The Fire Chaplaincy – The role of the Chaplain is “serving those who serve”. This workshop will explore the responsibilities of the fire chaplain as they support fire rescue personnel. This course is open to current chaplains, as well as those considering involvement as a chaplain in the future.
