Instructions for reading the 2013-2014 Student Migration Report
The 2013-2014 Student Migration Report compares fall 2013 enrollment in Texas public
community, state and technical colleges to fall 2014 enrollment. The data are taken from the
CBM001 Student Report, which records students enrolled on the official census date (12th class
day) in semester-length courses and the CBM009 Graduation Report, which records graduates
for the academic year.
For this migration report, students were tracked using their student identification numbers. This
study does not include students enrolled in the spring 2014 or summer 2014 semesters or
students enrolled in flexible entry courses.
The 2013-2014 Student Migration Report data are separated by graduates and non-graduates.
Graduates include students reported on the CBM009 for 2013-2014 the academic year by
public and independent institutions. Graduates also include students who graduated at any time
during the 2013-2014 academic year. Graduates may have received: an Associate’s Degree, a
Certificate, an Enhanced Skills Certificate, an Advanced Technology Certificate, or a Bachelor’s
Degree.
The 2013-2014 Student Migration Report data are further categorized in four major ways. For
each region or institution, a student is only counted in one category. Core curriculum completers
did not graduate, but graduates might also have completed their institutions’ core curriculum.
a. SAME INSTITUTION - Students who were enrolled in the 2013 fall term at a public
community, state or technical college and who returned to the same institution in the
fall of 2014.
b. OTHER 2-Year - Students who enrolled in the 2013 fall term at a public community,
state or technical college and transferred to another 2-year institution in the fall of
2014.
c. OTHER 4-Year - Students who enrolled in the 2013 fall term at a public community,
state or technical college and transferred to a 4-year institution in the fall of 2014.
d. NOT FOUND - Students who enrolled in the fall 2013 term at a public community,
state or technical college and who could not be identified through the Coordinating
Board student record files in the fall of 2014.
CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT - Students who were concurrently enrolled at more than one
institution are given to the institution from which they were taking the highest number of
semester credit hours.
ETHNICITY DEMOGRAPHIC - Hispanic students, except international ones, are counted as
Hispanic. Students who are "Multi-Racial one of which is African American" are included with
the African American students. Asian includes Asian, Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders. "Other"
includes American Indian, Alaskan Native, Unknown, and two or more races, excluding African
American. International students are shown as a separate category.
