It was a matter of great pride and honour that Bal Bharati Public School, Pitampura, was adjudged ‘Outstanding School, North’ by an eminent jury for its superlative achievements in the field of school education. Mrs. Sonia Chhabra, Head Mistress, Primary, received the award on behalf of the school. Our school bagged the first place in the ‘Leading Reading Schools of India’ Awards for the year 2015,out of 40 schools across the country, for the commitment to creating a sound reading culture. The highly creative work submitted by the students was also appreciated. The school received a Citation, a hamper of books and a year's membership of the Bharat Natural History Society (BNHS). Our school will be associated with the different projects on Conservation of nature, access to 200 current e-journals and 1500 reports on world wide projects. Chestha Chaudhary of class X has been selected for a four week course in B1 level, German, from 25th June to 25th July in Germany. It is a fully paid scholarship by Goethe Institute, Maxmueller and the German Embassy. Only three students from Delhi were selected for this scholarship. NDTV has shortlisted a movie made by our students to be aired on NDTV Prime. The movie ‘Scratch’ is based on the emotional bonding between a father and son. Our school received the Trophy for sending the maximum number of entries for the Annual Vivekananda Competition for the year 2014-15. Two of our students of class VII qualified for the final round of the competition after competing with 84000 participants of different schools all over India. Audit for the Awakened Citizen Programme was conducted by the representatives of the Mission in February this year and our initiative was highly appreciated as we successfully completed the first phase of the programme in Class VII this year. Our school choir presented a self composed song on the occasion of the 150th birth Anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda at Rama Krishna Mission in January. The objective of this interaction was to explore possibilities of mutual co-operation between the Private and Government schools in areas like curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, on case to case basis; sharing of best practice in academics that could be accepted by different schools to improve performance of students as well as teaching techniques, and improvement of infrastructure in government schools through Public Private Partnership. Bal Bharati Public School Pitampura was shortlisted along with 13 other top schools of Delhi. As a part of this project, the two schools that have been entrusted to us are GGSSS Ranibagh (morning and evening shift). Bal Bharati schools have developed a curriculum that focuses on values such as honesty, good habits, self discipline, good manners, respecting environment, cleanliness. The syllabus has been finalised and a copy of the manual, designed for classes Mont I to VIII has been circulated to all the units. Under the guidance of Mr. S.K. Bhattacharya, Ms. Kavita Dhar, Headmistress Senior and her team put together all the material received from the different units, designing it using child friendly animations and formats. The students of Keshav Mahavidyalaya staged a very thought provoking Nukkad Natak in the school premises on the 19th of March, 2015. Most of the participants were ex students of the school. The play, Karma, very evocatively portrayed the role of the mother. The play sensitized the students about their duty towards their parents. The participating audience were students of Class-XII who also interacted with the alumni with respect to their college selection and further studies. ACTIVITY CENTRE BBPS, ROHINI The Child Education Society has set up an activity centre especially for the Montessori students at Sector 25, Rohini. 365 students of Montessori - I visited the centre from 9th to 12th March and experienced various activities based on multiple intelligences. The students enjoyed doing the activities in the Hurdle room, Science lab and the Puppet room. It was a great experience to demonstrate to the children the benefits of working together in a team. Seminar on Global Economy On 20th Jan 2015, students of class XI along with Mr. Pankaj Bhanwani attended a seminar at SRCC for the SriRam Leadership Summit. Mr. Deepak Nayyar, Professor of Economics at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi was the keynote speaker. The seminar provided the students an excellent opportunity to explore the SRCC campus. Heritage Walk 311 students of class XII went on a Heritage walk to Chandni Chowk on the 17th of March. The walk included visits to the Heritage sites of Jain Temple, State Bank of India, Town Hall and Sis Ganj Gurudwara. The students in groups of 20s were escorted by a teacher who was also their tour guide. The visit was a novel and unique experience of its kind which had the students savour the joys of sewa at the Gurudwara, the aromas of paranthe wali gali, the feel of the seats of Town Hall and so much more. This visit is a part of a series of experiences which the class XII shall be given before they move ahead after their last year in school. The group explored the display of various art forms practiced in different parts of India. Jewellery, textiles and handicrafts from several states were shown to the students and they were enriched with information related to the diverse cultures and traditions of India. The students loved the experience and were in awe of the rich and colourful display. They were given a worksheet at the end to consolidate the knowledge that they had gathered during the excursion. An excursion for class 3 was organized on 4th February, 2015. 179 students accompanied by 6 teachers visited the Crafts Museum at Pragati Maidan. The group reached the venue at 10:30 a.m. and spent two hours exploring the display of various art forms practiced in different parts of India. The students saw different types of huts from M.P., Jharkhand, Rajasthan etc. They also saw wall paintings from different regions of the country. Jewellery, textiles and handicrafts from several states were shown to the students and they were enriched with information related to the diverse cultures and traditions of India.The students loved the experience and were in awe of the rich and colourful display. They were given a worksheet at the end to consolidate the knowledge that they had gathered during the excursion. Students of class IV were taken for an educational excursion to the National Museum of Natural History in two groups on 21st and 22nd January,2015. It was an enriching experience for the learners wherein they learnt about the different habitats of animals on earth, endangered animals, food chain, food web, water - an elixir of life and different systems of the human body. The students did a corresponding worksheet which gave them a good hands on learning experience. The students of Class V were taken for an educational excursion to National Science Centre, Pragati Maidan and Crafts Museum in two groups on 28th and 29th January, 2015. ISA ACTIVITIES Ms. Sarabjit Kaur was shortlisted for the Global Teacher Accreditation program 2015 conducted by the British Council. She attended a two day initiation workshop on 9th and 10th February 2015. Her research proposal was one of the 120 selected out of 740 applications across the country. The prestigious program includes school based action research aimed at improving school practices and encouraging innovative teaching. ISA ACTIVITIES A delegation of 18 students and 11 teachers from Fengtai Children’s Art Palace, Beijing, China visited our school on Friday, 06th February, 2015. The group had an enriching experience of sharing their traditional dance forms with the students of our Primary Department. The students from both the schools presented a cultural show highlighting their country’s varied dance and music forms. The Chinese group also learnt our Madhubani art form and left with many treasured memories. It is known as Kambha, a kitchen waste recycler. It will be used as a live experimental model for children where they can learn how to turn their kitchen waste into compost and save the environment. INTERACT CLUB Social Engagement and Responsibility As a part of the school's attempt to develop an attitude of social responsibility in students, the students of class XII visited the slum near the school premises. The students collected clothes, sheets, games and other material which could be of use for the people living in the slum. The students interacted with the children there and were touched by the conditions they were living in. INTERACT CLUB INTERACT CLUB INTERACT CLUB GARDENING CLUB The Gardening club students have planted tomatoes and chilly plants in small containers. Container gardening is the practice of growing plants exclusively in containers instead of planting them in the ground. In some cases, this method of growing is used for ornamental purposes. This method is also useful in areas where the soil or climate is unsuitable for the plant or crop in question. Limited growing space, or growing space that is paved over, can also make this option appealing to the gardener. Author’s Talk An author’s talk was organized on 3rd February 2015. Mr. Yannets Levi, an Israeli author who has written a children’s book series, ‘Uncle Leo and his Adventures in the Romanian Steppes’ conducted the session and made the audience fall in love with the main character, Uncle Leo. He shared his experience as a writer and inspired the students to write. Author’s Talk The students of class IV presented a Cultural Show on 21st of February 2015. The theme of the show was ‘Incredible India’ . The chief guest of the programme was Mr. L. V. Sehgal, Principal, BBPS, Gangaram Marg. “Simply the Best” a song on what makes India so incredible was the highlight of the event. The regional presentation comprised of dances from India. The Nukkad Natak was a brilliant presentation on the sacrifices of the freedom fighters. The last item left everyone mesmerized as the students displayed the meaning of each word of our National Anthem . A “No Garbage Day” was observed by classes III to V on February 6, 2015. The Green Brigade with a team of volunteers visited each class and addressed the students on the purpose behind the mission. They also implored the children to refrain from any form of littering all throughout the day. A check conducted at the end of the found all the dustbins in the classrooms litter free and the school spotlessly clean. The students of Class 3 displayed the cultural diversity of India through a presentation on ‘Festivals of India’ on 11th March 2015. The Presentation began with a celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi followed by Gurupurab. The students then invoked the blessings of Goddess Durga through a beautiful dance. Other festivals like Raksha Bandhan, Diwali, Christmas, Holi and Gandhi Jayanti were also presented. The presentation concluded with a foot-tapping Lohri song and dance. It was a matter of great pride that all the students participated in the presentation. MONTESSORI MONTESSORI A Rhyme Dramatization show was held on 27th February, 2015 for the students of Montessori I. All the sections participated with full zest and enthusiasm performing on various English and Hindi rhymes. The children portrayed different characters and were colourfully dressed. It was a joyful and enriching experience for the teachers and the students. MONTESSORI MONTESSORI MONTESSORI The graduation day for class II was celebrated on 13th March, 2015. The chief guest for the programme Ms. Nanu Rekhi, Principal NTTI, Pusa Road enjoyed the performance of the students. All the students got a first hand experience of graduating from Montessori to the Primary Dept., as they wore the customary black hats and were awarded a scroll. The programme began with a Ganesh Vandana, followed by a sufi song. A mesmerising dance drama and a Nukkad Natak were performed by the students. An English play ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’ was enacted by the students in which stress was led on voice modulation and expression. Many students were awarded certificates under the Good Reading scheme. The camp commenced on 23rd January for classes Mont –I to class V. The children were briefed regarding the dental problems. The doctor demonstrated the correct method of brushing the teeth. The students’ oral health was thoroughly examined by a team of 5 highly competent doctors. Each student was given a card mentioning the current status of oral health and remedial measures to be taken, if needed. Once again ,I thank every member of our Managing Committee for having being our strength and support throughout the year and for guiding the school to great achievements during the year.
