Eagle Rock K-5 Multi-Age Program 29300 NE 150th St. Duvall, WA 98019 (425) 844-4900 2014-2015 Profile www.erma.riverview.wednet.edu/ The Eagle Rock Multi-Age Program (ERMA), created in 1994, provides another choice for parents in the Riverview School District. This K-5 program integrates curricular areas through school-wide thematic units to bring learning alive for students. Active studies include field trips and multi age days to enhance academic areas. We offer a unique hands-on, minds-on learning environment that fosters cooperation and teamwork. Monthly character traits and family groups help the children grow socially. Teachers use a variety of teaching techniques to meet students’ different learning styles. The Eagle Rock Program allows students to progress through the elementary experience at a rate based on individual strengths. One component of the Eagle Rock experience is the commitment of each family to volunteer a minimum of 60 hours per year. Parents volunteer their strengths, talents, and skills. We believe that involving parents and community in the learning process is critical and an integral part of our students’ success. In our outdoor classroom and garden settings, students are free to explore and learn about nature, applying to their own environment what is learned in the classroom and on field trips. Students are encouraged to spend recess time enjoying the garden. We have a school-wide recycling program which includes composting and worm bins as well as paper products. We now use plastic reusable trays for our lunches due to a student-driven quest to reduce. This has made a huge impact on our garbage. Student leadership is a top priority. Our student council is elected by the entire student body in late September. The council allows students to be actively involved. The council has accomplished many tasks including raising money for the community and organizing spirit days. The council also gives input on dress codes and school rules and helps decide what the school needs are from the students’ point of view. Our students are also encouraged to provide articles and art for the quarterly newsletters produced by our students. ERMA’s principal received her National Board Certification 2003. All certificated staff members have masters and are leaders in the district and state professional development. All members of ERMA strive for excellence through collaboration, building an exceptional educational foundation for students in an inviting, and nurturing setting. Eagle Rock was named a School of Distinction for the 2010-2011 school year.
