UCL WIDENING PARTICIPATION AND UK UNDERGRADUATE RECRUITMENT Transition Programme Transition Programme 2015-16 (Senior Mentor Role Description) The Transition Programme supports all first year students in their transition to university. This transition can be a particularly stressful time for students as they adapt to a different way of life and new academic demands. Senior Mentors play a key role in the Transition Programme by overseeing and coordinating the mentors in their department. This is an excellent opportunity for students to build on skills gained as a Transition mentor as well as to develop your communication, organisation and leadership skills. Senior Mentors will be paid £150 at the beginning of second term. Please note that you can only apply for the role if you have previously acted as a Transition Mentor. Person Specification We are looking for students who can demonstrate the following qualities: Excellent personal organisation Familiarity with your department and UCL as a whole with the ability to signpost students to sources of support Approachable and supportive Excellent communication skills Reliable, responsible and ability to use initiative Ability to empathise with the needs of first year students and Transition mentors in department Duties and Responsibilities To be a Senior Mentor, you will be expected to: Attend a 2-hour training session with mentors and an additional 1-hour training session with other Senior mentors in either May, June or September Run ‘Meet Your Mentor’ session during Induction Week (Monday 28 Read the online logs of mentors in department and provide feedback to Transition team and nd September 2015) mentors on a weekly basis Respond to email queries from mentors, directing them to sources of information and student services where necessary.
