CONVICTION & BELIEF 9 Text Shemot, Chapter 2: שמות פרק ב (א) ַוּיֵלֶ ְך ִאיׁש ִמּבֵ ית לֵ וִ י וַּיִ ּקַ ח :אֶ ת ּבַ ת לֵ וִ י (ב) וַּתַ הַ ר הָ ִא ָּׁשה וַּתֵ לֶ ד ּבֵ ן וַּתֵ רֶ א א ֹתו ֹ ּכִ י טו ֹב הּוא ו ִַּת ְצּפְ ־ :לׁשה יְ רָ ִחים ָ נֵהּו ְׁש ֹ (ג) וְ ֹלא יָכְ לָ ה עו ֹד הַ ְּצפִ ינו ו ִַּתּקַ ח לו ֹ ּתֵ בַ ת ּג ֹמֶ א וַּתַ ְח ְמרָ ה בַ חֵ מָ ר ּובַ ּזָפֶ ת וַּתָ ֶׂשם ּבָ ּה אֶ ת הַ ּיֶלֶ ד וַּתָ ֶׂשם ּבַ ּסּוף עַ ל ְׂשפַ ת :הַ יְ א ֹר (ד) וַּתֵ תַ ּצַ ב אֲ ח ֹתו ֹ מֵ רָ ח ֹק לְ דֵ עָ ה :ֹ מַ ה ּיֵעָ ֶׂשה לו (ה) וַּתֵ רֶ ד ּבַ ת ּפַ רְ ע ֹה לִ רְ ח ֹץ עַ ל הַ יְ א ֹר וְ ַנ ֲער ֹ־ תֶ יהָ ה ֹלְ כ ֹת עַ ל יַד הַ יְ א ֹר וַּתֵ רֶ א אֶ ת הַ ּתֵ בָ ה : ָּבְ תו ְֹך הַ ּסּוף ו ִַּת ְׁשלַ ח אֶ ת אֲ מָ תָ ּה ו ִַּתּקָ חֶ ה (ו) ו ִַּתפְ ּתַ ח ו ִַּתרְ אֵ הּו אֶ ת הַ ּיֶלֶ ד וְ ִהּנֵה נַעַ ר ּב ֹכֶ ה וַּתַ ְחמ ֹל עָ לָ יו ַוּת ֹאמֶ ר ִמּיַלְ דֵ י :הָ עִ בְ רִ ים זֶה 1 And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took for his wife a daughter of Levi: 2 And the woman conceived, and bore a son; and when she saw that he was a handsome child, she hid him for three months: 3 And when she could no longer hide him, she took for him an ark made of reeds, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child in it; and she laid it in the rushes by the river’s brink: 4 And his sister stood far away, to see what would be done to him: 5 And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river’s side; and when she saw the ark among the reeds, she sent her maid to fetch it: 6 And when she had opened it, she saw the child; and, behold, the baby wept; And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews’ children: Miriam —The Mother of Rebellion www.chabad.org/1555406 Miriam—The Mother of Rebellion 10 7 Then said his sister to Pharaoh’s (ז) ַוּת ֹאמֶ ר אֲ ח ֹתו ֹ אֶ ל ּבַ ת ּפַ רְ ע ֹה הַ אֵ לֵ ְך daughter, Shall I go and call for you a אתי לָ ְך ִא ָּׁשה מֵ ינֶקֶ ת ִמן הָ עִ ְב ִרּי ֹת ִ ָוְ קָ ר nurse of the Hebrew women, that she :וְ תֵ ינִ ק לָ ְך אֶ ת הַ ּיָלֶ ד may nurse the child for you: (ח) ַוּת ֹאמֶ ר לָ ּה ּבַ ת ּפַ רְ ע ֹה לֵ כִ י וַּתֵ לֶ ְך הָ עַ לְ ־ 8 And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, :מָ ה ו ִַּת ְקרָ א אֶ ת אֵ ם הַ ּיָלֶ ד Go; And the girl went and called the יכי אֶ ת ִ ִ(ט) ַוּת ֹאמֶ ר לָ ּה ּבַ ת ּפַ רְ ע ֹה הֵ יל child’s mother: הַ ּיֶלֶ ד הַ ּזֶה וְ הֵ ינִ ִקהּו לִ י וַאֲ נִ י אֶ ּתֵ ן אֶ ת 9 And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, :ְׂשכָ רֵ ְך ו ִַּתּקַ ח הָ ִא ָּׁשה הַ ּיֶלֶ ד ו ְַּתנִ יקֵ הּו Take this child away, and nurse him (י) וַּיִ גְ ּדַ ל הַ ּיֶלֶ ד ו ְַּתבִ אֵ הּו לְ בַ ת ּפַ ְרע ֹה וַיְ ִהי for me, and I will give you your wages; מׁשה ַוּת ֹאמֶ ר ִּכי ִמן ֶ ֹ לָ ּה לְ בֵ ן ו ִַּת ְקרָ א ְׁשמו And the woman took the child, and :יתהּו ִ הַ ּמַ יִ ם ְמ ִׁש nursed him: 10 And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son; and she called his name Moses; and she said, Because I drew him out of the water: Miriam —The Mother of Rebellion www.chabad.org/1555406
