39. Using Satellite Data for Global Surface Monitoring Author: Daniel K Zhou Affiliation: NASA Surface skin temperature and emissivity derived from the current and future operational satellites can and will reveal critical information on the Earth's ecosystem and land surface type properties. Presented here is the global surface IR emissivity and skin temperature retrieved from IASI measurements under \"clear-sky\" conditions. We are to demonstrate that surface emissivity and skin temperature from satellite IASI measurements can be used in assistance of monitoring global change. Monthly surface emissivity and temperature with a spatial resolution of 0.5x0.5 degrees of latitude-longitude are produced with temporal variation to indicate seasonal diversity of global surface emissivity and temperature. Global surface monitoring over more than 4 years IASI measurements is under investigation. It is attempted deriving a trend as the measurements continuously provided.
