The contact hours meet the revised University guidelines ["One credit hour is awarded for a minimum three clock hours (180 minutes) in a standard week of a 15-week semester, or for a minimum 45 clock hours (2,700 minutes) in a semester"]. This course was previously 6-12 credits, but due to the desire for students to take an additional 2 credit seminar, related to co-teaching for inclusive classes, the program will reduce the hours to 4-9 credits. This revised course still requires 18-36 hours per week (270-540 per semester) in the field (depending on credits) but the credits received for this course is reduced. Also, this better fits the university definition of a practicum or internship, as opposed to field experience; therefore, the schedule type is revised. The course description is changed from 16 to 15 weeks to reflect the typical semester length. This course will typically be taken for 9 credits (540 semester hours); although second licensure students who are seeking pre-k certification may take it for 4 (270 semester hours). Explain how this proposal affects program requirements and students in your unit: A program revision is being submitted to decrease the credit requirements for this course from 12 to 9 for the BSE ECDE program. This will reduce total credits required for graduation but will still meet the minimum University standards. Currently, the roadmap outlines a 15-credit semester for the block containing this course; however, there is a new course that would benefit students in their teaching career. In order to make room for this course, and to encourage students who would otherwise be dissuaded by an overloaded semester, reducing the credits for this semester is proposed.
