It currently exists at the 50,000 level so this will be slashed with that course. Although revisions are being made to the original title, credit hours, prerequisites, catalog description, content outline, and writing expectations the course is basically the same. If a student previously took it, it would be equivalent to this revised version. Presently, SPED 43981 is required for ASEI students; however, 43981 is a student teaching course which is not the practicum experience needed for ASEI. Therefore, this course is being reactivated to meet their specific needs. BSE SPED ASEI students are required to take this course for 9 credits; therefore, the credit hours are being revised from 1-3 to 1-9. The contact hours conform to the revised University guidelines ["One credit hour is awarded for a minimum three clock hours (180 minutes) in a standard week of a 15-week semester, or for a minimum 45 clock hours (2,700 minutes) in a semester"]. The title is changed to reflect that of the slashed graduate course, which went through curricular revisions after 43192 had been previously inactivated - from "Practicum in Educational Interpreting" to "Practicum: Interpreting Process" which more accurately describes the instructional focus. Explain how this proposal affects program requirements and students in your unit: This will replace SPED 43981 Student Teaching in Special Education as a required course. SPED 53192 is also being updated and a program revision is being submitted to reflect this change. Explain how this proposal affects courses, program requirements and student in other units: No impact Explain how this proposal affects enrollment and staffing: this should be addressed, as it may impact enrollment in 43981 Units consulted (other departments, programs or campuses affected by the proposal): None Revisions made to form (if applicable): Course Content Number Credit by Exam Prerequisites Credit Hours Schedule Type Cross-Listed / Slash Subject Description Title Diversity Title Abbreviation Grade Rule Writing-Intensive (WIC) Liberal Education Requirement (LER) Other Comments (500 Character Maximum): NOTE: Please do not use the following restricted characters: (~ * / \ --) https://workflow.kent.edu/ccu/approve.aspx 12/9/2013 Approve Approve Comments: Date User 12/5/2013 Susan M Augustine Page 3 of 3 Return To Initiator Return To Prior Approver Deny Comment This should be designated as an ELR course - the system would not recognize this attribute (not diversity).
