AGRICULTURAL EXPERIMENT STATION Oregon State Agricultural College W. A. Sohoenfeld, Director Corvallis Circular of Information No. 169 Jaiauzy 1937 OREGON LANDS HANDBOOK OF STATISTICS For use of county agents and others interested in the land problems of Oregon By M. N. Nelson, Agricultural Economicat Division of Agricultural Economics Oregon State College January 1937 The statistics here given represent a revision oi the Handbook of Statistics dated January, 1935, The purpose of this revision has been not only to present data of more reoent origin when possible, but also to incorporate the tabular results of a study of types of rural land ownership begun with the aid of Federal funds by the Oregon Agricultural Experiment Station in the fa].1 of 1934, Supplementing these tables but not incorporated in the handbook are maps on a scale of one inch to the mile oovering every county in the State, showing the area devoted to each type of ownership, whether (1) Federal, (2) State, (3) county, (4) municipal, (5) small privAte or corporate, (6) large private or corporate. These maps are on file and open to inspection in tho office of the Division of Agricultural Economics, Oregon State College. For a nominal charge, reprints may be obtained by application to this office. As was stated in the earlier handbook, the statistics here given are the best obtainable but cannot be fully guaranteed as to aoouraoy. The area of land owned by private individuals, corporations, or public agencies is subject to frequent change. Any tabulation of ownership is therefore of only temporary exactness. The tables included in the following pages present the status of ownership at various periods during the years 1933 to 1936 inclusive, for it was impractical to secure data on all lands for a comparable date, Apparent disorepenoiss between tables in the area roported for the same class of land is chiefly It is due to the date to which the data applies. believed that the data given are sufficiently accurate to afford a correct pioture of the land ownership problem in Oregon. Grateful acmowlediont is made to E. L. Potter, Head of the Division of Agricultural Economics; A. S, Burner, Head of the Department of Farm Manage ment3 and L. R. Breithaupt, Extension Economist, for their oollaboratjoxi in this study.
