TechStyleLAB Symposium | Call for Papers January 29 – 30, 2015 at The Fashion School at Kent State University, Kent, Ohio, USA Purpose: The TechStyleLAB in the Fashion School at Kent State University is a dedicated space for the exploration of digitally driven input and output technologies in the creation of fashion and related products. The lab currently offers a 3D body scanning, digital pattern-making, digital textile printing, laser cutting/etching and digital embroidery. The TechStyleLAB exists to educate about and create access to digitally driven input and output tools for prototyping, small run garment and soft good production, to model small sustainable manufacturing business practices with attention to customer interactivity in the design process and to create a sustainable cross-disciplinary maker community fostering product development and entrepreneurship. The goal of the TechStyleLAB Symposium is to stimulate discourse on digital fashion and textiles related to the topics listed below. Campbell Important Dates o Call for Abstracts – September 1, 2014 o Abstracts due – October 15, 2014 o Notification of acceptances – November 1, 2014 o Early bird conference registrations – November 15, 2014 o Registration deadline – January 15, 2015 o Symposium dates – January 29-30, 2015 o Fashion Tech Hackathon dates – January 30-31, 2015 o Full papers of up to 5,000 words in length will need to be submitted for peer review and publication in the conference proceedings after the symposium – date to be determined Submissions: All submissions are to be sent to: techstylelab@kent.edu with the subject line PAPER SUBMISSION (for Papers) or POSTER SUBMISSION (for Student Posters). Please include the names of all authors, full contact address and affiliations with your submission. Papers: Abstracts should be 500 words for papers or creative works and must clearly indicate the contents and contribution of the paper. Abstracts should present research that has not been published or presented at other professional conferences. Include keywords with your submission. Provisional acceptance of the papers will be made on the basis of the abstracts. Final acceptance is contingent upon the receipt of a draft of the full presentation documentation (including the format of your presentation). Demonstrations and displays of creative processes, visualizations and/or artifacts are encouraged. All papers will be peer reviewed before the final acceptance and publication in the Conference proceedings. Student Poster Competition: Masters and Doctoral students who are attending the conference are invited to present a poster describing their research in a special session. Students who wish to participate should submit an abstract of approximately 200-400 words detailing their research. Fashion/Tech Hackathon: All students are welcome to participate in our Fashion/Tech Hackathon - a 36-hour hackathon focused on fashion, technology and innovation.
