classes, all sizes, or all grades from all methods of sale.
for each method of sale is weighted by the quantity sold.
The price
The averages
point out trends only, and should not be regarded as market prices
for a particular grade or class of product.
OREGON FARM PRODUCT PRICES
1910-1953
Elvera Horrell and F, E. Moore l/
Oregon's farm prices have followed the same general pattern as the
average for the nation--low in periods of depression and high during war or
immediate postwar periods.
February 1933.
Prices in this state hit an alltime low in
They cam? up sharply during the war and postwar years to
reach a peak in January 1952, then declined steadily.
Livestock products
came up faster and dropped farther, percentage-wise, than crops.
Almost any product native to a temperate zone can be grown in Oregon.
In addition to such "principal" products as meat animals, dairy, poultry,
grain and hay, seeds, potatoes, truck crops, tree fruits, and nuts, Oregon
produces such specialty products as berries, mohair, honey, hops, peppermint,
sugar beets, and the like.
A price history of all these items is included
in this publication.
This circular gives a complete farm price picture for the state, when
used in conjunction with a report on "Index of Prices Received by Oregon
Farmers Monthly 1910-1953>" released in January 195*+ by the Oregon Crop and
Livestock Reporting Service, Portland, Oregon, in cooperation with the Oregon
State College Extension Service.
l/ This publication supersedes Extension Bulletin 660 published in December
19^5. It is the result of the cooperative effort of the Oregon State College
Extension Service and the U. S, Department of Agriculture, Agricultural
Marketing Service. The prices were compiled mainly from reports of the
Agricultural Marketing Service by Elvera Horrell, Extension Agricultural
Economist, Oregon State College Extension Service, and checked by F. E. Moore,
Statistician in the Portland office of the U. S, Department of Agriculture,
Agricultural Marketing Service, Agricultural Estimates Division.
