Cadet Gallon is an AS300; he attends the University of Akron and majors in Emergency management. He is pursuing to be either a pilot or ALO on active duty. Cadet Gallon’s job in the wing this semester is Training Squadron Commander. It is his responsibility to ensure cadets are trained and develop their leadership skills through out the semester. He is in the spotlight this week due to training support squadron excelling the past week with both HRC and the PFA. No Texting & Driving Over 3000 people die each year due to distracted driving. What can we do about this? The simple answer is to not do it ourselves, but I encourage you to take it farther. Don’t tolerate texting while driving. It has been proven that when asked to not text while driving most drivers stop. Take something that could end a life seriously. No Drinking & Driving High Ropes Course What did you learn during High Ropes Course? Several cadets were graded on their ability to lead groups through an obstacle during HRC. Use any opportunity you may have to request feedback about your leadership style from your peers and the POC. Here are some key tips when you are given the opportunity to be the leader during a GLP: -Make sure to state the mission clearly to all -Use everyone in your group while brainstorming -Make sure to delegate tasks and not to micromanage -Try not to get stuck reworking your entire plan, be flexible and adapt as problems arise - Be sure you are the hub of communication - Continually motive the group -Have a sense of urgency from start to finish In 2012, more than 10,000 people died in alcoholimpaired driving crashes - one every 51 minutes. More people die from drinking and driving in a year than the total amount of American casualties from Iraq and Afghanistan combined. Tolerating drinking and driving can not happen. If somebody has had drinks and plans on driving stop them and get them a cab. Right Cadet Pittman climbs the rock wall during High Ropes Course. Left Cadets Emahiser and Lisco climb the ladder, an obstacle that requires teamwork and trust. Cadet Shout Outs “Shout out to everybody. Everyone has been doing great work this entire semester.
