Guidelines for Munroe Scholarship and Research Prize Expenditures Munroe scholars are eligible for up to $1000 during each of their junior and senior years for the support of research endeavors. Munroe Prize recipients may apply for up to $500 to support their research projects. Scholars and Prize recipients will complete applications for these monies. Applications will include a project description and timeline as well as an itemized budget and justification for expenses. The faculty sponsor will review and approve the application prior its submission to the Director of the Munroe Scholarship Program. The following guidelines should be followed whenever possible in evaluating appropriateness of proposals and the fate of materials bought with Munroe Scholarship funds. 1. Expenditures on equipment or supplies required for laboratory research are appropriate. The equipment or remaining supplies will be the property of Wesleyan College and will be left in the appropriate laboratory after the project is complete. 2. Expenditures on books necessary for the project may be appropriate. The book will remain property of Wesleyan College unless the faculty sponsor believes that the material would be of little or no use to other students in the future. If this is the case, the book will be added to the holdings of the Willet Memorial Library or will remain in the faculty member’s laboratory as deemed appropriate by the faculty sponsor and the library’s staff. 3. The funding of travel is appropriate only when it is directly related to the student’s research project. For example, a student might need to travel to another researcher’s laboratory facilities in order to complete a portion of her project. On the other hand, she might wish to present her findings at a professional meeting. Either of these scenarios would be appropriate for the application of Munroe Scholarship funds.
