INTRODUCTION
Eaton designs its Cooper Power™ series 35 kV Class 200 kV BIL connector
system products to terminate high voltage underground solid dielectric cable at
transformers, switches, switchgear and other apparatus. The standard 35 kV class
separable connectors are qualified to IEEE Std 386™-2006 standard “Separable
Insulated Connector System for Power Distribution Systems Above 600 V”. In addition
to meeting all the standard IEEE Std 386™-2006 standard 35 kV Class dielectric
requirements, the 200 kV BIL (impulse) 35 kV class separable connector products are
further qualified to an elevated BIL (impulse) rating of 200 kV and 1 minute ac withstand
rating of 70 kV.
This test report certifies that the all the system component parts were installed
according to the applicable installation instructions and tested for a 200 kV BIL impulse
and a 70 kV, 1 minute ac withstand following the testing requirements as described in
the IEEE Std 286™-2006 standard.

TEST PROGRAM
Object
To demonstrate that Eaton’s Cooper Power series 35 kV Class 200 kV BIL
connector system products meet a 200 kV BIL and a 1 minute 70 kV ac withstand when
tested per the procedures described in the IEEE Std 386™-2006 standard.
Procedure
Design tests were performed on the specified number of samples as stated in
Table 1 of IEEE Std 386™-2006 standard. The representative 35 kV Class 200 kV BIL
connector system products consist of the products listed below. Each component was
tested for 3 positive and 3 negative 200 kV impulses and a 1 minute 70 KV ac withstand
following the testing procedures described in IEEE Std 386™-2006 standard.

Design Tests
A. Corona voltage level……………………………………………………….. Section 7.4
B. 70 kV alternating current withstand voltage……………………………... Section 7.5.1
C. 200 kV Impulse withstand voltage………………………………………….. Section 7.5.3
Summary
The 35 kV Class 200 kV BIL connector system products demonstrated the ability
to withstand 3 positive and 3 negative 200 kV BIL impulses and a 1 minute 70 kV ac
withstand without puncture or flashover when tested per the procedures as described in
the IEEE standard “IEEE Standard for Separable Insulated Connector Systems for
Power Distribution Systems Above 600 V” designated as IEEE Std 386™-2006
standard.
TEST A
CORONA VOLTAGE LEVEL TEST
CT650001EN
Page: 5 of 8
Section 7.4
Object
To demonstrate that Eaton’s Cooper Power series 35 kV Class 200 kV BIL
connector system products meet the IEEE Std 386™-2006 standard minimum corona
voltage level of 26 kV rms.
Procedure
Twenty samples of each of the applicable connector system products were
tested for a 35 kV class minimum corona voltage level by increasing the test voltage to
20% above the specified 26 kV or higher until corona exceeded 3pC. The corona
voltage level was then found by lowering the voltage until the corona diminished to less
than 3pC. The voltage was then maintained for at least 3 seconds, but not more than 60
seconds.
Results
The corona voltage level exceeded 26 kV rms for all samples of each product.
Conclusion
The 35 kV Class 200 kV BIL connector system products met or exceeded the
IEEE Std 386™-2006 standard minimum corona voltage level of 26 kV rms.

TEST B
ALTERNATING CURRENT WITHSTAND VOLTAGE TEST
Section 7.5.1
Object
To demonstrate that Eaton’s Cooper Power series 35 kV Class 200 kV BIL
connector system products meet a 60 Hz 1 minute ac withstand level of 70 kV rms
without puncture or flashover.
Procedure
Twenty samples of each of the applicable connector system products were
tested with 35 kV Class 345 mil cable assemblies that used a 200 kV cable adapter that
was assembled to a cable whose diameter over the insulation was within the bottom
25% of the published adapter range. Each assembly was tested for a 60 Hz 1 minute ac
withstand test by raising the test voltage to 70 kV rms in less than 30 seconds and
holding the voltage for one minute.
Results
All samples of each product withstood a 70 kV rms, 60 Hz, one-minute withstand
without puncturing or flashing over.
Conclusion
The 35 kV Class 200 kV BIL connector system products demonstrated the ability
to meet a 60 Hz 1 minute ac voltage withstand level of 70 kV rms without flashover or
puncture.

IMPULSE WITHSTAND VOLTAGE TEST
Section 7.5.3
Object
To demonstrate that Eaton’s Cooper Power series 35 kV Class 200 kV BIL
connector system products withstand 3 positive and 3 negative 200 kV impulses without
puncture or flashover.
Procedure
Twenty samples of each of the applicable connector system products were tested
with 35 kV Class 345 mil cable assemblies that used a 200 kV cable adapter that was
assembled to a cable whose diameter over the insulation was within the bottom 25% of
the published adapter range. Each of the samples were subjected to test voltages
having a 1.2x50 microsecond wave and crest values of 200 kV. Each sample was
subjected to three positive and three negative full wave impulses.

Results
All samples of each product withstood three positive and three negative full wave
impulses with 200 kV crests without punctures or flashovers.
