The only OSHPD approved, liquid-filled transformers rated up to 10,000 kVA for applications in seismic zone areas Seismic solutions from Cooper Power Systems Cooper Power Systems now offers liquid-filled substation and pad-mounted distribution transformers from 45 to 10,000 kVA with approved certification from the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) organization. Hassle-free qualification in seismic zone areas with OSHPD certification and anchorage pre-approval with Cooper Power Systems transformers What is OSHPD and how will it affect electrical construction projects? Pictures from the third-party test facility are shown below: One of many branches of OSHPD regulates the design and construction of healthcare facilities in California to ensure they are safe and must remain functional in the event of a natural disaster – including earthquakes. The organization has significant influence over worldwide seismic standards and the International Building Code (IBC). The intent is to provide reasonable assurance of seismic performance to avoid serious injury, loss of life, loss of function, and minimize repair cost in critical facilities. OSHPD released new requirements effective January 1, 2011. These requirements affect California facility construction projects today, but has the potential to expand beyond California to seismic construction sites throughout the US. Qualified projects will need two forms of approval: product approval and anchorage approval prior to installation. Cooper Power Systems has both and can furnish necessary documentation with our offering. Special seismic certification pre-approval (OPS-0121-10) For product approval, Cooper Power Systems passed the test to remain operable following a significant seismic activity. This includes product, components, supports, and attachments. Seismic qualification is granted by passing an international, IBC recognized, shaker table testing standard. Possessing this certification assures end users the product is compliant for OSHPD regulated projects. Our design is qualified for a spectral response acceleration at short periods (Sds) level of 1.93 for an array of transformer sizes and accessories. www.cooperpower.com Anchorage pre-approval (OPA-2557-10 through OPA-2562-10) Product approval is only one part of the qualification needed to comply with OSHPD. You also need anchorage approval. We’ve done the work for you. Cooper Power Systems can provide certificates that fulfill OSHPD requirements and eliminate the need for a third party consultant or site inspection of the anchorage layout. We’ve determined the number of holes and proper anchorage provisions in our designs with final calculations validated and stamped by a licensed California structural engineer. Because of its unique interactions with solid insulation and moisture, this bio-based fluid enables insulation systems to age more slowly than traditional dielectric coolants. Users can accelerate their return on investment by specifying 75 °C average winding rise (120 °C hottest spot temperature) transformers while maintaining the transformer’s current expected life. This enables the smallest footprint transformers available. Envirotemp™ FR3™ fluid is the most environmental friendly dielectric coolant available today. It is readily biodegradable, and is non-toxic. The fluid is essentially carbon neutral per the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) life cycle impact analysis Biobased for Environmental and Economic Sustainability (BEES v4.0e) report. With a flawless fire safety record, specifying Envirotemp™ FR3™ fluid delivers a step function increase in mitigation of long term liabilities. Envirotemp™ FR3™ fluid-filled transformers meet the National Electric Code (NEC) for indoor installation without users incurring expenses associated with fire mitigation equipment or fire vaults. Improved safety, reduced long term liabilities, and faster return on investment, results in Envirotemp™ FR3™ fluid being recognized as a best-in-class dielectric coolant.
