S.T.A.R.™ Manual Reset Type Faulted Circuit Indicators
A Cost Effective Unit Designed for Trouble-shooting
Description:
Cooper Power Systems’ S.T.A.R. Manual Reset (MR) faulted circuit indicators (FCIs) can be used on
overhead uninsulated, unshielded cable and unshielded insulated cable such as tree wire. The MR FCI
can also be installed on pad-mounted distribution transformers, sector cabinets and switchgear applications.
To reset the FCI, simply touch the reset tool to the MR housing.
The S.T.A.R. MR FCI is designed with a clamping mechanism that’s “a snap” to connect to an energized
system for a wide range of cable diameters. Installation is quick and easy, with only one hot stick.
The unique FISHEYE™ display, with a highly reflective orange target, provides enhanced 180 degree
visual indication. The display is black under normal conditions.
The selection of an MR faulted circuit indicator has never been easier! For conventional indicators,
trip ratings are selected based on cable diameter, load current and minimum fault current levels. Now to
select trip rating, simply choose the “HI” trip rating for 600 A URD systems, or for applications close to the
substation where available fault currents tend to be greater than 800 A. Select a “LO” trip rating for 200 A
URD circuits, or for areas further out on the system where available fault currents tend to be less than
800 A. This approach to trip selection means that one indicator fits all cable diameters from
0.25” through 2.0”.
With this simplified approach to rating selection:
■ Ordering is easier and faster.
■ Inventory is reduced, eliminating the need to stock multiple designs.
■ Pre-installation load surveys are not needed.
■ FCI changeouts are not necessary as systems grow.
■ Misapplication due to trip selection errors are eliminated.
Design Features:
These design features are standard on every S.T.A.R. Manual Reset faulted circuit indicator:
■ Low Pass Filter: Prevents tripping on high frequency transients
■ Temperature Compensation Circuitry: Assures accurate, reliable performance over a wide
temperature range
■ Reliable Open Core CT Design: Eliminates tripping due to adjacent magnetic fields
■ Quick Response Time: Coordinates with all current-limiting fuses
■ Tough, Durable Construction: Corrosion-proof, damage-resistant, display status cannot
mechanically change
■ Exceeds ANSI®/IEEE Standard 495-1986™
■ Quick and Easy Installation: Only one hot stick is required
