SPOTLIGHT #1: The Stainless Steel Advantage Molybdenum gives Type 316 stainless steel better overall corrosion resistant properties than Type 304, particularly higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments. Type 316 stainless steel contains at least 16% chromium, 10% nickel and 2% molybdenum. It is the standard in the manufacture and handling of food and pharmaceutical products to minimize the potential for metallic contamination. l l l Class I Division 2 Groups A, B, C & D Class I Zone 2 Groups IIA, IIB, IIB + H2 and IIC Type 4X Outdoor Marine Type Saltwater Conforms to IP66 • The only stainless steel HID solution available. • Maintenance friendly removable ballast. • Ceiling, pendant, stanchion or wall mount types. • Tool less entry via six stainless steel over the center cam latches. • Field replaceable globe/lens and gaskets. • One-piece high temperature silicone gasket provides a watertight seal. • Stainless steel wire guard available. • Choice of angled or shallow dome reflectors. l l l l l Class I Division 2 Groups A, B, C & D Class I Zone 2 Groups IIA, IIB, IIB + H2 and IIC Type 4X Outdoor Marine Type Saltwater Conforms to IP66 • The only stainless steel HID solution available. • Tool less entry via four stainless steel over the center cam latches • Ceiling, pendant, stanchion or wall mount types. • One-piece high temperature silicone gasket provides a watertight seal. • Field replaceable globe/lens and gaskets. • Shallow dome reflector available. tin Pla ld m HazCor Optima 1100 Go ain St ive niu Tit a pa el ck Ni er s pp Co as Br ze tiv ac el on Br ck Ni Tin ad Le HazCor Optima 1120 l l ss e ac s Ste tiv el e 31 30 6 Galvanic Corrosion Chart les ain St n Iro st St Ca ain m inu les ac s Ste tiv el e l ee St um Al Ga lva niz ed ium es c gn Zin Ma Anodic (Most Corroded) um BEST - 316 Stainless Steel Steels are referred to as stainless when they inherently resist corrosion. This is achieved by dissolving sufficient chromium in the iron to produce a protective film on the surface. However, even stainless steels can corrode in extremely harsh environments. Nickel significantly improves the general corrosion resistance of stainless steels by promoting passivation. Passivation is the removal of exogenous iron or iron compounds from the metal’s surface. Stainless steels containing at least 8% nickel are referred to as austenitic. Type 304 is the standard of stainless steel and is the most widely used; it is commonly referred to as 18/8 stainless as it contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel. les pa s S ss tee ive l 3 04 St ain les pa s S ss tee ive l 3 16 Sil ve r BETTER - 304 Stainless Steel Pure aluminum is soft and ductile; strength is achieved by the addition of other elements to produce alloys. These elements include manganese, silicon, iron, zinc, copper and magnesium. Aluminum is most resistant to corrosion when the copper content is reduced to less than 0.4%. This alloy is commonly referred to as copper free aluminum. Additional corrosion resistance can be achieved with the addition of surface finishes, such as electrostatically applied oven-cured polyester powder coating. Aluminum is not recommended for areas exposed to most acids and alkilides. 4 GOOD - Copper Free Aluminum Noble (Least Corroded) HazCor Optima 1130 l l l l Class I Division 2 Groups A, B, C & D Class I Zone 2 Groups IIA, IIB, IIB + H2 and IIC Outdoor Marine Type Saltwater Conforms to IP66 • Low profile mounting with junction box to the side of the luminaire. • Tool less entry via four stainless steel over the center cam latches. • Ceiling mount type. • Stainless steel vibration dampening mounting feet. • Field replaceable globe and gaskets. • Tool less lamp replacement. • One-piece high temperature silicone gaskets provide a watertight seal. 5 FLOODLIGHTS FLOODLIGHTS Chemical plant manufacturing highly corrosive solution. Contact Pauluhn for recommendations. Maintain a proper Luminance Uniformity Ratio (see table 1). Comply with IES recommended Minimum Luminance Levels for Safety (see table 2). Use a light source with a color rendition index (CRI) above 65. Where visual detection of ANSI/OSHA Z535.1-2006 safety color codes is essential, target a minimum 80 CRI. • Deploy a lighting design that utilizes diffuse light sources to wash shadows and minimize glare.
