Gavilan College doesn't allow any student to work on aircraft or component that will be flown. Gavilan College uses only demonstration/decommissioned aircraft and components. Therefore, Gavilan College uses a system of IC or instructor calibration. For those tools that need to be adjusted or calibrated, the instructor will examine the tool before a student uses it. The instructor will insure that the tool is capable of performing sufficiently to convey the lesson being taught to the student. An example of this would be micrometer. An instructor will use a gage block to insure the micrometer is working sufficiently for instructional purposes. Where required, the instructor will use a calibrated/certified master reference. Abbreviation used on Tools/Instructional Aids list G - General Curriculum A - Airframe Curriculum P - Powerplant Curriculum IC- Instructor Calibrated Document and Computer Library Gavilan College provide it's students with aviation manuals from companies including, but not limited to: Cessna; Mooney; Lycoming; Marvel-Schebler; Hughes; Bendix; Hiller; Facet; Slick; Pratt & Whitney and Continental.
