Cooper Power Systems and ELO Sistemas Eletrônicos Partner
to Bring Advanced Smart Grid Solutions to Latin America
Cooper Power Systems Smart Grid solutions for energy efficiency, productivity, and
reliability.
WAUKESHA, WI, USA, and Porto Alegre, Brazil, June 5, 2012 — Cooper Power Systems, a
division of Cooper Industries plc (NYSE: CBE), and ELO Sistemas Eletrônicos together announced
their partnership to bring advanced Smart Grid solutions to Latin America. The partnership
combines Cooper Power Systems Yukon™ advanced energy services software platform and AMI
communications technology, broad experience in electrical distribution, and global expertise with
ELO's leadership position in electronic meters and smart meter solutions.
Cooper Power Systems Yukon advanced energy services software platform has been used within
the electrical industry for more than 20 years and is deployed at hundreds of North American
utilities—managing millions of smart devices. Yukon enterprise level software offers utilities a suite
of integrated, field-proven Smart Grid applications for apparatus, Advanced Metering Infrastructure
(AMI), Demand Response (DR), Integrated Volt/Var Management (IVVC), Self-Healing Grid, and
Substation Automation for optimized system control. Yukon software supports a range of
communication options which include RF mesh, PLC, Wi-Fi, cellular, and ZigBee.
The partnership envisioned combining Yukon advanced energy services software platform with
ELO smart meters to develop solutions to help Latin American utilities reduce losses, improve
power quality, and provide customer incentives. The two companies have already begun working
to integrate ELO single and polyphase smart meters with integrated Cooper Power Systems AMI
communications technology. These advanced smart meter solutions are expected to be ready for
pilots in 2012 in preparation for volume rollouts beginning in 2013.
"Latin American utilities are about to begin the wholesale adoption of Smart Grid technologies with
the installation of 67 million smart meters in Brazil," said Marcos Rizzo, ELO vice president of
business development. "Partnering with an established Smart Grid player like Cooper Power
Systems allows ELO to go to market immediately with the complete Smart Grid solution that these
forward-thinking utilities are demanding."
"ELO is the leading metering provider in Brazil and is well positioned for growth in Latin America,"
said Mark Thurman, president, Cooper Power Systems. "Our partnership with ELO provides us
additional access to a rapidly growing market and the opportunity to increase our already
significant strategic investment in that region."
