Eaton Services and Solutions Help Utility Customers Modernize Distributed
Automation Systems to Support Reliable, Secure Power
Programs will be showcased during the DistribuTECH 2015 Conference and
Exhibition, Booth #2313 from February 3 through 5
PITTSBURGH … Power management company Eaton is showcasing its expertise in helping
utility customers modernize communications infrastructure to enhance system reliability, grid
security, and productivity. With world-class expertise and manufacturing capabilities, Eaton is
delivering turnkey distribution automation solutions that can incorporate legacy and new
equipment to provide a highly cost-effective approach to electrical grid automation. Eaton will
showcase these services and supporting technology at the DistribuTECH Conference and
Exhibition in San Diego from Feb. 3-5, in Eaton booth #2313.
“Through our customized approach, Eaton is delivering the next generation of distribution and
substation automation solutions to help utility customers meet the requirements of our
evolving electrical system,” said John Gadbury, utility segment manager, Electrical
Engineering Services and Systems Division, Eaton. “Eaton’s turnkey solutions incorporate
our Cooper Power series technologies, which are deployed in thousands of utilities around
the world to provide secure grid monitoring and control, enabling rapid and intelligent
response to changing grid conditions.”
With a global network of expert professionals, Eaton is working with utility customers to
update distributed automation systems and upgrade aging remote terminal units (RTUs).
Eaton’s turnkey approach does not require wholesale equipment replacement; instead, the
Eaton solution provides an upgrade path for utilities to advance modernization projects to
meet evolving requirements. Further, the Eaton solution can integrate into existing

Eaton’s Cooper Power series solutions, including SMPTM gateway technology, provide all the
communication and automation functions of the advanced RTU. The Eaton solution provides
a secure, single-point of access to substation data and is designed to support interoperability
and interconnectivity of intelligent electronic devices (IEDs). The solution also includes
integrated security features to help utilities comply with North American Electric Reliability
Corporation (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards.
