The Cashore
Marionettes
Kamikaze
Fireflies
Fri., Sept. 11, 2015 - 12:30 p.m.
Unmatched in artistry, grace and refinement
of movement, the internationally acclaimed
Cashore Marionettes redefine the art
of puppetry. The moving and humorous
performance has astounded audiences
in Europe, the Far East and across North
America, including stops at the Kennedy
Center, Annenberg Center, Kravis Center
and many others. In the performance,
Life in Motion, Joseph Cashore presents
his collection of marionette masterworks.
Characters of depth, integrity and humanity are portrayed in a full performance
unlike anything else in theatre
today. The performance is
a series of scenes taken
from everyday life and set to
beautiful music by composers
such as Beethoven, Vivaldi,
Strauss and Copland. Through
a combination of virtuoso
manipulation, humor,
pathos, classic music and
poetic insight, The Cashore
Marionettes take the audience
on a journey that celebrates
the richness of life. Life in Motion is a powerful, entertaining, surprising,
theatrically satisfying, one-of-a-kind performance.
A Christmas
Story for
Caroline
Fri., Nov. 20, 2015 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Thurs., Oct. 15, 2015 12:30 p.m.
Rob Williams and Casey Martin
perform their show, Kamikaze
Fireflies, for audiences all over
the world. They skillfully combine
juggling, hula hoops, german
wheel, whip cracking and many
tricks never seen anywhere else for a comedic show with a circus feel. Their
appearance on “America’s Got Talent” in 2014 earned them a standing ovation.
The Seattle Times said they gave a “near riotous end to the show.”
Walk on:
The Story of
Rosa Parks
Fri., Jan. 15, 2016 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
In 1955 in Montgomery,
Alabama, a determined activist
named Rosa Parks refused to
give up her seat on a city bus.
The resulting uproar launched the Civil Rights movement and changed our
country forever. Walk On: The Story of Rosa Parks weaves together music and
drama to tell the story of Rosa Parks from her childhood in rural Alabama to her
famous decision to “sit down and be counted.” The play dispels myths about
Parks and her protest as it paints a portrait of a complex woman who had to
find reconciliation within herself in order to become an effective Civil Rights
leader. Exciting and inspirational, Walk On: The Story of Rosa Parks shows how
the determination of one individual made all the difference in the struggle for
freedom and equality in the United States.
This presentation is based on The Tailor
of Gloucester by Beatrix Potter and
adapted for the Kent State University at
Tuscarawas stage by William Ian Auld.
It’s Christmas Eve and young Caroline
curls up by the fire to hear one more
story before being put to bed. There she
is swept off into the world of Victorian
London and the sounds of the story come to life around her. Using a Reader’s
Theater approach to storytelling, this theatrical tale comes to life, not only through
the words and characters, but through the live creation of sound effects needed
to tell this tale. These sound effects or “foley” are created and demonstrated
onstage through a myriad of methods ranging from traditional theatrical means, to
tricks pulled from the Golden Age of Radio, to the simple methods still used today
to capture the soundscapes of films. This performance is a Christmas tale to help
welcome in the holiday season and a creative starting point to inspire people to
start creating the sound effects themselves.
