Spring 2016 My Time to Register
Spring 2016 class registration will soon be here! Students register based
on their total number of earned and inprogress hours. Students must
meet with an advisor before registering. Encourage your student to meet
with an advisor as soon as possible if this has not been done. Registration
entry schedules can be seen here.
Talking to Your Student
About Anxiety
Adjusting to increased academic
demands, forming new friendships,
trying to figure out the future, and
possibly living away from home for
the first time can understandably
cause your student to feel anxious. If
your student expresses feelings of
anxiety and uncertainty, please
acknowledge that it’s absolutely
normal to be feeling this way.
Encourage your student to contact
one of the counseling centers on
campus to talk about what he or she
is experiencing. Professionals can
help your student to understand the
difference between everyday anxiety
and anxiety disorders. For more
information, please visit.
Academic Success Center
The Academic Success Center offers
students a variety of free academic
support services. Tutoring sessions
are available in the University Library
or select residence halls. Students
may choose from dropin or
scheduled tutoring for courses
including math, science, and several
Kent Core classes. Supplemental
Instruction is group tutoring for
courses that many students tend to
find challenging. Study skills
tutoring is also available to help
students develop time management
and study strategies that can be
applied to any course, such as note
taking and test preparation. Visit
the Academic Success Center for
more information and to view the
tutoring schedule.

Understanding Course Withdrawal Policies
If your student is struggling in a class, please let him or her know that the last
day to withdraw from full semester courses is Sunday, November 8 at 11:59
p.m. This will leave a grade of W on their transcript. The W grade will not
factor in their grade point average. Please help your student to understand
that withdrawing from courses should not be taken lightly but it may help
prevent him or her from having a poor GPA. Withdrawing from courses may
have ramifications on their ability to receive financial aid, health and/or car
insurance, scholarships, and acceptance to graduate school. Please encourage
your student to talk these factors over with an advisor before withdrawing from
one or all courses through FlashLine. For more details please review this
information from the University Registrar.
